Fundraiser for Atascadero woman who lost baby in head-on crash

The Atascadero woman who lost her baby and her boyfriend after a wrong-way driver crashed into the car she was driving on the Cuesta Grade is asking for the community’s assistance.

At 28-weeks pregnant, Christyna Railsback was driving southbound on Highway 101 on the Cuesta Grade with her boyfriend 55-year-old Cezar Roy on Aug. 26 when a truck driven by a drunk driver crashed head-on into her black Dodge Charger. Three other vehicles also crashed into both the truck and the Charger.

Roy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Responders transported Railsback to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center where doctors performed an emergency C-section.

“My baby boy did not survive,” Railsback wrote on GoFundMe. “I was 28 weeks pregnant, and in the span of just a few hours, I lost both my boyfriend and my son.

“As I try to survive this heartbreak and recover from my injuries, I am also struggling with the weight of hospital bills, childcare for my other two children, and the many unexpected expenses that come with a loss like this,” Railsback added. “Right now, every day feels overwhelming, and I am doing my best to heal physically and emotionally while still being there for my children.”

The driver of the truck, David Worthington Ross, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and possibly drugs at the time of the crash. Because of a previous DUI conviction, Ross could face a second-degree murder charge.
