Suspect arrested for raping teen near bike path

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 27-year-old man on Monday for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl at knifepoint near a bike path in Carpinteria in March 2025.

Following the rape, the victim told detectives she was walking home when an unknown suspect approached her and allegedly sexually assaulted her at knifepoint in a landscaped area near the bike path.

Detectives collected forensic evidence that was submitted for DNA analysis. Detectives continued pursuing available leads while awaiting forensic results.

Based on the evidence and their investigation, detectives arrested Saul Estrada Munoz of Santa Barbara on suspicion of forcible rape, kidnapping to commit rape, and for making criminal threats. The charges also included an allegation that a deadly weapon was used during the sexual assault.

Munoz was booked at the Santa Barbara County Main Jail, where he is being held on $1 million bail.
