Text cash for Haiti
January 13, 2010
Central Coast residents who want to help the victims of yesterday’s horrific 7.0 earthquake in Haiti are being urged to text “HAITI” to “90999.”
A $10 donation, charged to your cell phone bill, will be given automatically to the Red Cross for their international relief effort, according to Joy Miller of the San Luis Obispo County Red Cross chapter.
Miller stresses that monetary donations are the most effective form of immediate assistance. More information about the Haitian relief efforts is posted on the local chapter’s web site.
UPDATE: as of Friday morning, more than $8 million has been raised nationally by the Red Cross through the text message campaign.
