Jerry Brown: Flip-flop No. 1

November 4, 2010

Brown's Oakland Hills home

It didn’t take long. California Gov.-elect Jerry Brown told a Wednesday morning press conference that he will not be moving to Sacramento, contradicting an earlier pledge and creating his first official flip-flop. [Capitol Alert]

“I will live in Oakland, but given the fact I said I’m going to be working virtually nonstop on the budget, I’m going to have to find some place to sleep in Sacramento,” Brown said. “I’ll find a place.”

Brown told reporters he wouldn’t sell his five-level, $1.8 million Oakland Hills home “until it attains its original value. And that’s going to take a lot of work on my part.”

The Democrat had said in September that he would move to Sacramento if elected. “I will move in here,” he said at the time. “There are plenty of nice places downtown.”

He should move back into the governor’s mansion. That way the upkeep on that beautiful building will come out of the governor’s office budget and not state parks.

It doesn’t have to close to the public either. The White House is open for tours and such, so too could California’s second most famous residence (behind Hearst Castle). If all he needs is a place to lay his head, why not use the mansion. It was good enough for his dad, it’s more than good enough for him too.

That or he should take a room at the YMCA.

Every California governor wears flip-flops. They come with the job.

Two illegal wars based on lies with American soldiers being killed daily and this rates as a story? People starving, homeless, hopeless, and Jerry Brown not selling his house in Oakland and moving to Sacto is a story?

This site could have been something special.

And yet here YOU are…participating. What does that say about you, hmmm???

It does seem pretty silly to print such a non story. These are the types petty stories that get the right wing into a feeding frenzy and accomplish nothing other than to add more divisiveness. Tabloid article at best.

Christ on a bike! It took CCN less then 24 hours to turn something minor into a “Flip Flop” sound bite…

At least the right wing nut-jobs gave Obama a month or so before they said they “gave him a chance.”

Looks like the nickel a comment right wingers aren’t getting paid to weigh in after the election. There are more reasonable comments than unreasonable. Just a few local vitriolics. Time for Brigadoon/SLO to go back to sleep.

I was wondering what would be posted with the close of the elections. If this is the best you can find, you might start working on your resume. This is a non-story.

Sacramento to Oakland is 1.5 hours. He will not sell his home in Oakland and should not. He can afford to rent something in Sacramento and will.

He will not LIVE in his purchased home in Oakland.

He will not LIVE in his rented home in Sacramento.

He will be working long hours to fix the budget, his and our number 1 priority and will have a place to sleep at night.

He’s going to be working very hard. I am very glad he was elected.

“Flip-floping” is a sensationalist label and not accurate.

Sorry about the double post. The site was having problems so I changed my last sentence to better reflect my thinking.

I don’t agree with you, Cindy that he “lied”

I won’t be living anywhere except at the Capital.

I remember in the later part of 1981, the Herald Examiner reported that the state budge was in the red by millions of dollars, and in less than 6 months in the early part of 1982 the news reported that the stae budget was in the black and liquid. I know not of any other political official that took care of a budget problem that fast!

If he is not competent because of old age to do some good for California, then Meg Whitman or her greedy buddies can start a recall and put herself on the ticket to replace him.

Willie: will check back with you January 2012… Bigger problem so I want to give him 1 year not 6 months to fix this budget with all the tax propositions he will propose to us, the taxpapyers, and of course we will reject until we see the cuts, cuts, cuts. I truly hope you are right and I am wrong but wouldn’t bet on this one!

Mid 2011 on my estimate.

Too soon. It took more than a year to get in this mess, it’s going to take a few years to get out.

If you bought a business that was in a huge mess and losing money it would take some time to change things around.

I hate to say to sound negative but I say at least two years, probably a few more. Just trying to do little things when it comes to politics is so difficult and bureaucratic. Look at the flack he’s already getting over such a simple thing as to where he’s going to stay. If anyone can get us out of this mess he’s the guy that can do it.
