Four more radio stations drop Glenn Beck

Glenn Beck

The controversy over right wing radio talk show host Glenn Beck continues with the news that Buckley Radio is dropping the hot-button program from four of its stations in Connecticut. [Media Matters]

Buckley officials announced Beck would be removed from WDRC-AM, WWCO-AM, WSNG-AM, and WMMW-AM, which simulcast the same programs.

“I am making the change in programming to address the Talk of Connecticut listener’s desire for more locally originated program that feature Connecticut issues,” Eric Fanhoe, Vice President/General Manager, Buckley Radio of Connecticut, wrote in an e-mail Thursday.

Grahame Winters, the Connecticut division’s program director, also confirmed the need for more local programming in an e-mail:

“Quite simply, we are making the change in our programming lineup because our TALK of Connecticut listeners have expressed a desire for more locally originated programming featuring issues important to us here at home. This change will more closely align us with that goal.”

The move comes nearly three months after WOR Radio, Buckley’s flagship station in New York, dropped Beck in early January. At that time, WOR executives replaced Beck with a local veteran host.

Buckley will now carry Beck’s show only on its station in Bakersfield.

Liberal activists have targeted radio stations that carry Glenn Beck by contacting advertisers and meeting with management to have the program yanked.

Glenn Beck is heard locally on KVEC in San Luis Obispo and the station has seen its ratings increase since adding the Beck program.

I don’t listen to Glen Beck because I abhor bible thumpers. Having said that, I think there is a vital need for his type of commentary to counteract the brain washing given to our children by teachers in the public schools and universities in this country.

The only way I know Beck is when somebody plays in insane clips.

He worrys little old ladys, and the weak minds….BUT his website did “out” James O’Keefe’s BS hackjob on NPR…so I dunno…..Give credit where credit is due, so there’s one for him.

It’s really funny to watch the politizied nut jobs jockey back and forth, to keep Obama bashing.

Hey, I don’t like the guy, because he’s a lyer and a wimp—no where NEAR communist for me.But I will give credit where it is due when he does something good….

And watching guys like Newt, who “were” for the No-fly…BUT as soon as Obama did it, he’s totally against it?

I ‘m a damn socialist, and 10X more patriotic than him….I care about this country

Hey folks,

I’ve listened to Glenn Beck on occasion; he shares time with two other famous radicals Rush and Dave Congalton on a local station. Glenn is very passionate about his views, which is nothing new if you read all the “cat ladies and the boys who love them” that frequent this site. This may be coincidence, but the ‘take him off the air’ types began to appear when Beck began criticizing anything remotely associated with Islam.

In any event, I find him fairly innocent.

Um, I don’t think he’s passionate, he just knows “good Radio”, and he know how to stir up passions in others…. I don’t really think Rush believes one third of his hare filled BS…he just knows how ta getcha.

And lately, Glen’s been telling us God’s true plan. So I suspect he’ll get pushed off Fox, and get his own cable tele-evangilist deal going…

24/7 Beck…..

Would you want to sit next to him for eternity?

Congalton a radical?

Typical “lamestream”. Conservative as hell, tempered with personal quirks and peccadillos seen on both sides of the political spectrum, but traditionally associated with “liberalism”. Top that off with a pierced ear, and that’s what is considered “radical” in hate radio land.

BFD!

I am lucky I have a dial and an off button on my radio.

That’s swell for you Sam, what about the lame brained amongst us who actually think beck knows something? Beck is a liar, fool and hypocrite. How do you like folks like that spreading fear and hate in our population. His very popularity and that of limbag show what a lame society we are, just like the dispossessed in Germany in the 30s. But the lazy followers of our little tin despots on radio don’t have any reason to listen to the drivel, their lives are way better that those Hitler promised to improve. So I am baffled, the dumb ass masses are constantly convinced to vote against their own best welfare by these crackpots on the air.

I say hurray to those who fight for honesty on our PUBLIC airwaves and work to remove the violent verbal diarrhea that our intellectually challenged citizens (like the murderer in Tucson and listeners of hate radio) might actually digest as reality.

Wow, what’s with all the anti Obama advertising here? Guess Google’s Ad-Sense sees the name ‘Glenn Beck’, and assumes this is a right wing site?

Hope so. Any way to notify Google that its system is way off here?

I love the comments from the reader above. She hopes Beck cannot be heard by anyone. Censorship is a biggie on the list of liberals… if you dare to disagree with one, they want you off the air, or picket or boycott. So much for DIVERSITY of opinion and TOLERANCE of others. He’s falling apart? His audience id actually growing, not diminishing. See, the left tries to paint a picture where anytime his ratings take a dip, it’s all over for him. Do you know his show has more viewers than all of MSNBC’s shows COMBINED? He’s doing just fine, thanks. BTW… since when is Media Matters a quotable source? George Soros spent, directly, over a million dollars to bolster the roster at MM for the sole purpose of trying to discredit Beck. He did the same at The Huffington Post. It hasn’t worked. Beck reflects the vast majority of americans’ views, not the 8% who are left-wing. I also noticed how that staion in question has changed it’s entire format, to go local… but that didn’t stop this writer from trying to paint a false picture that Beck’s show was terminated because of content. ALL national shows were cancelled by the station. But you somehow failed to mention that, didn’t you. Welcome to left wing “journalism”… LOL

Im curious what some of the “we don’t wanna hear” it crowd would say if somebody locally broadcasted Al Jazeera. Course that would be their right to free speech in America so we’d all have to tolerate it.

Beck is comedy. He even calls himself a ‘rodeo clown’ on occasion. If you can’t stand his show, don’t listen to the staion or the ads. As far as Al-Jazeera is concerned, if they can ink a syndication deal and get radio stations to carry the show (with the express intent of getting listeners to hear the ads) good on ’em. I might listen, I might not.

I certainly did not listen to ‘Air America’, and neither did very many others, and they’re gone – without noisy obnoxious destructive hateful ‘MEAN SPIRITED’ protesters. Since when did a group of rude individuals waving signs, destroying public property and basically throwing a temper tantrum in public become a noble endeavor?

I don’t like any form of ad hominin attack or any other form of discourse that gets in the way of understanding between two parties. I remember a time, way back when, when liberals and conservatives could disagree and even argue the issues without name-calling and bashing each other. Talk radio (both sides), Fox News, and MSNBC have a lot to answer for — but they are responding to the market and providing a service. People just LOVE to have their views validated, and get into a good frothy outrage over “those idiots.” Too bad it pays so well to pander to people’s lower instincts and impulses. That is one of the things that I LIKE about Obama — at least he appeals to the better angels of our nature,as he did in his speech after the Tucson shooting.

That said — in answer to your question, when protesters disrupted town hall meetings on the health care proposal, they were haled as heroes by the right. When protesters took over the Wisconsin state house recently, they were haled as heroes by the left. When our Founding Father protested the British tax on tea by destroying private and public property, they were castigated a criminals and hooligans at the time, but today he call them heroes.

Dave-o, not sure but I believe you’re referring to me but if so then I’m glad that you love my comments. Trust me, in some ways I don’t really care if Beck stays on the air. He demonstrates behaviour from the tea bag crowd that needs to be seen by the sane population of this country.

I see that you are also having a difficult time with reading comprehension so it’s no wonder that you look up to the likes of Beck. Read this very carefully,,,I don’t believe in censorship, I don’t believe in censoring the crazy Beckster. I also believe that his sponsors DO have the right to not sponsor if him if that’s what they choose to do,,,that is NOT read it slowly N-O-T censorship. As far as ratings,,how did Jon Stewart put it the other night,,,the Brady Bunch also once had the highest ratings. High ratings doesn’t mean that the majority of the country shares his views.

Now if you want to see something crazy then watch this:

LMAO!

What’s your point there typo?

Please tell me you realize that’s Beck interviewing HIMSELF!

Lol!

How could one not see that he’s talking to himself, of course he is. A bit weird IMO, not funny at all.

Did you hear the first part where he went postal on that woman caller? I really should have posted the entire clip of that. He sounded as if he was going to have a breakdown right there. He’s nuts.

I hope he gets dropped from all stations. I feel that we are watching this man fall apart right before our eyes. Beck is on the edge of some type of a break down. This guy has one foot on over the edge and he’s ready to jump. I truly am worried about his mental stability and believe that it could get really ugly. Even though I don’t like the guy I don’t wish him any harm. He needs to get help. On the other hand he plays such a huge roll in dividing this country, it makes it very difficult to be sympathetic towards him.

I really have never listened to Mr. Beck’s radio program and care not who has dropped him. I have occasionally watched him on TV. He does seem to have a lifeforce destined to cause chaos. I agree that he is a man on the edge. However, his “huge roll in dividing this country” could not happen if the country were not on the edge of being divided. I somehow doubt Mr. Beck has the clout to divide as you have indicated. We have a President who is doing that.

You obviously watch the Beck show or you wouldn’t have such and opinion on his mental status, so one could ask if you feel he’s a nut case trying to destroy America then why do you watch him? Perhaps he comes on between the Days of our lives and another “reality” show you watch.

BTW, ever listed to one of the hate machine left wing shows? they should ban them also IMO if were going for stop the division of the flock.

undertow, I have watched bits and pieces of Beck’s show, you know what they say, keep your friends close and your enemies closer and IMO he is an enemy. Who’s banning Beck? With perhaps one exception I haven’t been able to stomach him for more than 5 minutes and that’s usually in my car while driving around, he’s an idiot. I don’t watch Days of our lives but once in awhile thanks to my DVR I try and catch the Ellen Show (does that count?). You pegged me, I really like unreality shows, I was thrilled to see that Deadliest Catch is coming back on..

Which ‘hate machine left wing shows’ are you talking about?

@danika, I agree that Beck hasn’t played the entire roll in dividing the country but he does have a large roll in it. Perhaps you should watch him or listen to his radio show once in awhile so you can give an educated opinion on the topic. How has Obama divided the country,,,oh yeah, by breathing.

This entire oped article with its cojoined comments by viewers is hylarious…

Beck is a commentator and entertainer, and gets paid to act out and engage the listeners.

Now, take the current POTUS and place him in this same scenario and you would have described him accurately. What if we had to listen to him every day giving us all his pep talk on how well he and the country are doing? Tonight we will be subjected to another fireside chat from Obama.

I prefer to let my fingers do the walking accross the dial and make my own mind up to what or whom I listen to…
