Attempted murder suspect found through DNA match

San Luis Obispo police arrested a man on Wednesday for an attempted murder officers linked the suspect to through a DNA match from a bloody knife.
On Jan. 20 shortly after 1 a.m., Austin Saran, 21, allegedly stabbed several Atascadero men he had entered into an argument with as they attempted to walk to their car through an area near Mission Plaza known as a hangout for vagrants.
Officers responding to a 911 call found Trevor Tice, 26, of Atascadero, covered in a large amount of blood and suffering from multiple stab wounds to his upper torso. Shortly thereafter, police discovered a second victim, Zachary Lerno, 26, of Atascadero who had fled after being stabbed in the head. He did not receive treatment for his injuries.
Investigators found the knife and sent it to the Department of Justice for DNA testing, Two matches came back, Tice and Saran.
Officers went to Vallejo and arrested Saran on Wednesday. He was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail for attempted murder.
