Point San Luis Lighthouse Keepers

December 13, 2012

The very Happiest Place in San Luis Obispo County on a rainy day, or on a sunny day, is the Point San Luis Lighthouse (guarding Avila).

We learned this when the Lighthouse Keepers hosted our first Victorian Make Merry at the Lighthouse for hundreds of visitors. They enjoyed carolers, food, music, mulled wine, story tellers, and beauty watching from cozy historic buildings as rain pelted rocks and waves. This 1890 Light Station was built for people to enjoy in all weather conditions. Even in the rain, folks flock to the Keepers’ Lighthouse Trolley for the spectacular ride from Wild Cherry Canyon to the Point San Luis Light Station.

This year we are raffling off a large Gingerbread Lighthouse and auctioning hand decorated Christmas Trees for charity. When the rain passes, as it does this time of year, the stunning view down the coast from our new warm Visitor Center is unmatched.

Perk up your December and bring the kids this Saturday, December 15 to the Point San Luis Lighthouse. With a little luck, you might see migrating whales. And all of the proceeds will go to the continued restoration, maintenance, and operation of your Point San Luis Lighthouse Park.

The Point San Luis Lighthouse Keepers is a 501(c)(3) dedicated to the restoration and operation of the Point San Luis Lighthouse as a public park. For Reservations call (805) 540-5770.
