Church wants upcoming sex abuse trials moved to San Luis Obispo

priestLawyers for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles have asked a judge to delay four sex abuse trials or move them to San Luis Obispo County because they don’t believe a fair, impartial jury can be found in Southern California. [LATimes]

Shortly after two brothers were awarded an unprecedented $4 million, the church asked a judge for a delay or change of venue in pending cases

“We think that the environment in Los Angeles today is currently hostile,” archdiocese lawyer J. Michael Hennigan said to the Los Angel Times..

Archdiocese attorneys blame media coverage, which they describe as “unrelenting obloquy, condemnation and contempt,” for poisoning the potential jury pool, according to court documents.

On Tuesday, the church asked Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Emilie H. Elias to have four suits concerning a Mexican priest accused of abusing more than two dozen boys in L.A. be moved to San Luis Obispo County. If the move is denied, the church asked for a trial delay of at least six months to allow what Hennigan called a “cooling-off period.”

Judges rarely permit changes in venue, said Richard Gabriel, a jury consultant to the Los Angeles Times.

Child molestation cases “engender very high emotions and very strong feelings,” Gabriel said. “When you have a metropolitan area of 8 to 10 million people, it’s pretty hard to say that out of that many, you can’t find a fair and impartial jury.”

It’s nice to see that the patriarchs of the different Orthodox state churches are planning to attend Pope Francis’ Papal Installation Mass. None of them has since the great schism of 1054 AD. Maybe they are finally making plans to come Home to Mother Church?

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (1 Timothy 2:5) This passage does not mean the hell bound Pope, or Mother Mary as the hell bound Catholic has to believe!


The chickens are finally coming home to roost, and the Catholic religion is slowing dying off, as it should in the eyes of the Lord, praise Jesus!

I don’t think it would be possible for an actual Christian (of any sort) to publicly suggest that Catholics are not Christians. Aside from the abject ignorance necessary to actually believe something so absurd, the idea itself is steeped in hatred.


Anyone who actually shares in the gift of faith that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior is also the beneficiary of God-given grace. That grace precludes one from being consumed by the hatred necessary to hold the belief that Catholics are not indeed Christians. Living a life steeped in hatred is mutually exclusive to living a Christian life.


I would therefore suggest that anyone espousing the erroneous and hateful belief that “Catholics are not Christians” is actually projecting the fact that they themselves are not Christians.

Perhaps, because of the priests-gone-wild unchecked pedophilia present in the Catholic Church, sects of Christianity would rather there be a defining line splitting Catholics with the rest of Christianity.


Whatever. I sure don’t like the idea of busloads of pedophiles being shipped up here for trials. We have enough creeps here as it is. We don’t need to import them.


And we definitely don’t need to make it a bigger burden than it already is for the victims of the abuse having to travel extra miles in order to be present for court hearings.

There have long been man-made, non-Christian sects (masquerading as “non-denominational christian churches”) that are built not upon love for God but on the hatred of His Catholic Church. There is a representative from one of them on these forums that routinely makes an ass out of himself by bloviating a toxic mix of hatred and ignorance. It has nothing to do with your notion of a “defining line.”


You share in his ignorance when you suggest the horrific issue is “unchecked.” Then again perhaps you were simply being offensive on purpose? As I read further, your “busloads of pedophiles” comment confirms that at the very least you’re ignorant. I suspect it’s a mixture of both in your case.

What part of this truthful statement don’t you understand? “The TRUE Christian realizes that all Catholics are NOT Christians because practically all precepts of the papists contradict the Hebrew-Christian God’s true words in the King James Bible.”


If you personally read from the King James Bible, or the myriad of variations thereof, and consider it the true word of the Hebrew-Christian God, then how in the hell are you to agree with the Catholics that read from an altogether different bible, the Douay-rheims Bible, that promotes the Mother Mary equal to Jesus, changes The ten Commandments, and basically directly contradicts the King James Bible???!!!


Where there is contradiction, there’re falsehoods, and where there’re falsehoods, there’re lies because both bibles cannot be correct at the same time! Get it?


If you don’t understand this simple premise, then I cannot discuss this any further with you because you don’t have the biblical acumen to do so.
