79-year-old hit by trailer on Highway 101

ambulanceA 79-year-old man walked onto Highway 101 in Atascadero Monday afternoon and suffered major, but non life-threatening injuries after getting hit by a trailer.

California Highway Patrol officials identified the man as Chico resident Jo Lillis. They have yet to determine why he was walking on the highway.

The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. when Lillis attempted to walk across Highway 101. An oncoming Toyota Sequoia SUV swerved to try to avoid Lillis, but the trailer vehicle was hauling hit the 79-year-old.

Responders transported the man to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton. No injuries occurred to any of the three people inside the vehicle that hit him.

CHP investigators say neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected as factors in the collision.
