A California Highway Patrol helicopter airlifted a 28-year-old man from Bishop Peak Sunday evening after the hiker reportedly broke his femur. [Tribune]

Around 5:42 p.m., several agencies responded to Bishop Peak to assist the injured hiker who was halfway up the trail near Foothill Boulevard. The helicopter lifted the man from the side of the mountain and brought him down to a staging area where an ambulance was waiting.

Emergency personnel then drove the injured hiker to the hospital. Authorities have not confirmed the extent of his injuries, nor have they provided an update about the man’s condition.

Cal Fire and San Luis Obispo firefighters assisted with the rescue operation. The rescue took about an hour.
