Oceano murder victim leaves two children behind

The Oceano woman who was stabbed to death on Sunday was the mother of two young children.

Patty Merino attended Arroyo Grande High School before graduating from Santa Barbara Business College in 2011, according to her Facebook page. At the time of her death, she was working at a local 7-11 store.

At 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, deputies responding to a domestic violence call and found Merino with stab wounds. Merino was pronounced dead at the scene.

Also at the residence was an Hispanic man in his 20s suffering from self inflicted stab wounds.

Emergency personnel transported the suspect to a local hospital where he is listed in serious but stable condition. The suspect’s name has not yet been released.

I hope her poor children did not have to watch their mother be murdered. That is all. Calcoastnews will just delete anything else I have to say.

Might want to check that name. All other news agency are reporting a different person was killed. Either there were 2 of these tragic murders, or someone made a major mistake.


She married Humberto Jacobo Chavez ,an American citizen. Merino is her maiden name.


Yeah, I figured that out after I posted. It still seems odd to use her maiden name in this story.


So sad that such a young life should end in this way.
