A Paso Robles woman turned herself in Tuesday morning after police circulated a photo of her allegedly passing a counterfeit check. Kathleen Bartley, 56, is accused of handing counterfeit checks to cashiers at the Paso Robles Target and Lowe’s Home Improvement stores.

Bartley passed four counterfeit checks at Target totalling more than $600, according to the Paso Robles Police Department. She allegedly passed a counterfeit check of more than $200 at Lowe’s.

On Monday, the police department released a surveillance photo and then received several tips from the public identifying Bartley as the suspect. She turned herself in around 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Officers arrested Bartley and booked her in San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of forgery, burglary and identity theft. She remains in custody with her bail set at $40,000.

Perhaps she could post bial by writing a check…

Who uses checks anymore? Just paying by check should be a red flag to criminal behavior, especially if you are in line ahead of me.
