Man suspected of killing relative in Morro Bay

crime sceneA 23-year-old man is in jail for allegedly killing a 59-year-old Morro Bay man. The suspect and victim are believed to be related, according to the Morro Bay Police Department.

Shortly before 6 a.m., the a California Highway Patrol officer spoke with the 23-year-old man in the Avila Beach area who said he had injured a relative in Morro Bay.

CHP officers detained the suspect and contacted Morro Bay police.

Morro Bay officers responded to a Napa Avenue home, where they found the dead body of the victim. Authorities have cordoned off the 400 block of Napa Avenue.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspected acted alone. Investigators have possibly recovered the murder weapon.

Officials are withholding the victim’s identity until family members have been notified. The suspect’s identity is being withheld because of his presumed relation to the victim.

A homicide investigation is ongoing. San Luis Obispo County crime scene detectives and district attorney’s office personnel are assisting Morro Bay detectives.
