San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s detectives have arrested one of two suspects accused of involvement in the robbery of a Nipomo Chevron station last month. Detectives are requesting help from the public with their search for the at large suspect.

Around 4:15 a.m. on Nov. 4, witnesses saw a white male suspect enter the Chevron station at 460 W. Tefft Street wearing a black zip hoodie, black ski mask with a white skull-like design, a black shirt and black gloves.

The man pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded money, cigarettes and lottery scratchers from the store clerk. After the clerk complied, the suspect fled by foot and evaded capture.

While investigating the robbery, sheriff’s detectives identified two suspects: Reed Hoffman, 19, and his 24-year-old roommate, Matthew Edward Martinez, both of Nipomo.

On Wednesday afternoon, detectives arrested Hoffman at his home in the 300 block of South Oak Glen Avenue. Deputies charged Hoffman with armed robbery and booked him in San Luis Obispo County Jail.

Hoffman remains in custody with his bail set at $30,000. Investigators are requesting that anyone who has information on the whereabouts of Martinez call the Sheriff’s Office Detective Division at 805-781-4500.

So you can afford a handgun but need to rob for some pocket change, cigarettes and scratchers?

Best thing about criminals is how dumb they are.

You could be right but it could also be the case that the gun was stolen previously. Yeah, they are still dumb either way.
