OPINION by T. KEITH GURNEE

First we have the recent push by state prosecutors to charge 86-year-old Edith Knight for making a phone call at a polling place. Then John Burton, chair of the California Democratic Party, flips a double bird at the president of the United States, daring Donald Trump to cut California off from federal funding that is so sorely need by this crazy state. Indeed, should the Golden State be renamed the state of insanity?

State Attorney General Xavier Becerra, a champion of the “sanctuary cities”and “sanctuary state” movements, has been determined to put an elderly widow behind bars for making that phone call.

Thankfully, the court just rejected part of Becerra’s case out of hand for the political stunt that it was. Yet he is still more than happy to coddle an oft-convicted felon and illegal immigrant who was deported five times before murdering Kate Steinle in San Francisco last year.

Then just this morning, it was discovered that the boyfriend just arrested for the murder of his Nipomo girlfriend had been deported last August. Will Becerra now come to his rescue? Shouldn’t AG Becerra focus more on prosecuting killers rather than phone callers?

Becerra and Burton are only the latest purveyors of such nonsense. Given such behavior by our state’s political leaders, perhaps California deserves to be cut off from federal funding. To paraphrase a statement made by Joseph Welch during the McCarthy hearings of the 1950s: “Misters Becerra and Burton, have you no sense of decency, sirs?”

What is happening to California?

One party rule. That is what is happening. Before Reagan instituted his amnesty in the 80’s California was a center right state with a republican governor. After amnesty everything changed. The newly pronounced Americans began to vote and in California the numbers were huge enough to eventually swing the state from red to deep blue.

The once great state of California has never been the same since. Now all we can do is wait for the eventual unstoppable total collapse of our states economy. Hopefully even our liberal Hispanic voters will begin to say they have had enough too, but that is a long shot. The best action in my opinion is to take my business and family and leave this mess for good.

Why stick around and work your ass off the rest of your life with little or no chance of a decent retirement? Now they want single payer health care? For who? Who will be the beneficiary of that boondoggle? I guarantee you it won’t be the folks paying for it.

In Virginia, after a rigorous voter analysis, they have concluded, 5000 illegals were on the voter rolls. Apparently its easy to get on the voter rolls. It’s the honor system. You are asked, ‘are you a citizen of the USA?’. You check the yes box and you are registered. BTW, the Dem Governor, Terry Mcauliffe, did all he could to block this analysis.

We can only hope the Trump administration, along with some very determined NGO’s, start the movement to analyse California voters rolls. If the small state of Virginia has 5000 illegals on the rolls, can you imagine the damage done in California?

It might actually answer the question as to why we have some of the least capable and qualified politicians, (from very small districts) running the California government up in Sacramento.

Wouldn’t you really want to know? Do you think California Dems would fight like hell to block this sort of analysis?

No, they found 5000 dead people who had not been removed from the rolls, they did not vote and were not ” illegals”. Then the fake news sites started linking to each other as the “source” because it was in fact fake.

You are just quoting fake news, also voter registration is a process and not “the honor system” ..

“Wouldn’t you really want to know?” We do and we did.

Feel free to pass your fake news to the alt-right outlets they love this stuff.

Cali economy may rival uk but so does our debt. Add our fair share of the federal debt and uk looks like a shining light. Oh, and wait until after our big shaker and upcoming droughts….. our economy will be exposed.

Conservatives concerned with the dangerous freedom that is ever expanding across the fifth largest economy on the world?

Former Inland congressional candidate Paul Chabot has your back and will help you move to other areas Press-Enterprise After the November election, he and wife Brenda “took a long hard look at our state of California and agreed it was time to move to ‘America,’ to find a region of our nation that embraces the values and morals we cherish.”

California Love it or leave it.

You have the same recommendation to any group that doesn’t like the way some thing is in CA? Such as minorities, veterans, homeless, or any group, either love the way it is or leave, do not try to change it?

No, but if they hate California and it’s people it is very unlikely things will change in there lifetime, to there satisfaction. It’s call the left coast for a reason.

So they should move to where they will be happy instead of living in fear or whatever. How much time do you want to spend on a situation that you hate, around people you fear, run by a government you don’t like or trust?

Be happy someplace or be unhappy here, your choice.

Freedom = taxed into the poor house? Democrats in California will not be happy until everyone has nothing, because then we will all be truly equal.

Don’t worry. It’s happening faster than you can imagine, soon you will be returned to Mexico. See how great it is then.

” soon you will be returned to Mexico. ” Lol no, US Citizen and Mexico remains

Mexico.

But you can fantasize if you want, free country.

First we have the recent push by state prosecutors to charge 86-year-old Edith Knight for making a phone call at a polling place.

If it was Bill Clinton on the couch, what would your article say?

Some people like to call California a great social experiment, leader of the pack etc etc.

Please keep one very important thing in mind-If California were not on the ocean, had a normal climate, and was not on the border with Mexico, the “Great Social Experiment” with all the accompanying California politics would place California 52nd in ranking of the top 52 places to live in the US-it would come in after the 50 states and 51st would be the dumpster in the parking lot.

So a fantasy? if only the sun wouldn’t shine it would suck lol

Feel better?

“California, which is one-eighth of the U.S. population with 39 million people and one-seventh of the nation’s gross domestic product of $2.3 trillion. Far from being a mess, California’s economy is bigger than ever, rivaling the U.K. as No. 5 in the world, when figures for 2016 are officially tabulated. ”

You can have you own opinion, facts are facts.

You are totally missing the point. It is ONLY because of geography that those facts are true. This is one of the most unfriendly business climates in the US. Without geography California has absolutely no value in the US context.

No I am not missing anything. You are pointlessly speculating about a state that does not exist.

The what if’s don’t matter, fantasy is just that.

If only there were a couple million people who weren’t concerned first with the business climate in California.

Narcissism, its a bad look on anything or anyone.

Travel to michigan, ohio, indiana, illinois, florida, texas, arizona, south carolina, missouri, nebraska, wyoming, and so forth. You will come running back to California no matter the cost or political party in power. Speaking from experience. Collect memories not things and you’ll see the light.

I expect the Democrats to always support the Illegals, that’s half their voting base, what gets me the most is the spending! It’s like our legislators never even had First Grade math! With the Bullet Train and the new California Health Care for all, (total of 500 billion for both!), there obviously isn’t enough money for both no matter how high you raise taxes, and California can’t just print money like the Feds can. Maybe that’s next, California will issue it’s own money!

“Illegals, that’s half their voting base” Bullshit.

They actually are the most people now living in LA and probably most vote since there is no verification required. Consequently the Democrats will buy every vote they can get.

“there is no verification required” 100% wrong.

I agree … it isn’t half, it is more like two-thirds.

See, fake news works.

A democracy can only exist until the majority of the public can vote itself largess out of the public treasury….Alexander Fraser tyler..

That’s what is happening in California.

Mr. gurney, you were doing fine until you mentioned McCarthy. McCarthy was an extremely brave man who suffered the exact same kind of attacks that Trump has had to withstand. William Buckley and M. Stanton Evans have written on the subject and have done a lot to clear up the misconceptions the news media spread about him. Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America’s Enemies is a good source. Back then there was no Breitbart to counter the left wing attacks against him. And now the left all the sudden is spreading conspiracy theories and accusing the Russians of interfering in our election. It is exactly one more example of the left wing lunacy that you write about. Actually, James Comey set the standard. If you can’t prosecute Hilary Clinton for intentionally running a private email server in an attempt to circumvent FOIA requests and place national security in jeopardy, then who can you prosecute? If someone made calls on behalf of Democrat candidate you know that they would not have been prosecuted by the state. But the main point is that you should get to know more about Joe McCarthy. Remember, after World War II atomic secrets were stolen, China went communist and Roosevelt turned over Eastern Europe to Russia. I am sure that you appreciate the enormity of those calamitous events. I think few people today understand McCarthy in the context of the times he was living in. Thanks though for another excellent article.
