Following the retrial of a child molestation case that had been overturned by an appellate court, an Arroyo Grande man has again been convicted of sexual abuse charges that could land him a life sentence.

Cody Adam Julian, 31, molested a child, who was a close family friend, between April 2016 and Aug. 2016. Sheriff’s deputies arrested Julian in Aug. 2016.

In March 2018, a San Luis Obispo jury convicted Julian of four counts of engaging in lewd of lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14 and one count of engaging in oral copulation or sexual penetration of a child under 10.

The following month, a judge sentenced Julian to 27 years to life in prison.

But, the Court of Appeal overturned Julian’s convictions. The appellate court ruled the prosecution’s expert witness introduced statistical evidence that went beyond the scope of Child Sexual Abuse Accommodation Syndrome (CSAAS).

The inadmissible evidence prejudiced the jury, depriving Julian of a fair trial, the appellate court ruled. Julian’s defense attorney failed to object to the evidence.

After a two and a half-week retrial, a jury convicted Julian of the same charges jurors found him guilty of in the initial trial.

Julian now faces life in prison, according to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 16 in the courtroom of Judge Jacqueline Duffy.

I agree completely with North County Lady. The complete disregard for victims in unacceptable. What the court needs are people who understand the lifelong impact it has on these kids. It forever impacts the victim. Changing who they are and the direction of their lives forever. Even if it happened once as a very small child. That person remembers the details throughout their lifetime! And for that every child molester deserves life sentences! These molesters are sick in the head. They need to be removed from society permanently. We need to have a zero tolerance. THAT is the only way to protect the children. Because even if you castrate these freaks they will still find a way. Its a control thing more than a sexual thing. There is no rehabilitation.

100% agree and honestly there is no rehabilitation of ANY sex offender. We really need to lock all of them up for life, not just the pedos.

I’m for putting them ALL on an island, with no access to humanity.

The Court of Appeals in California is ridiculous in California. Victim Rights are trampled on in favor of rights of perpetrators. This man needs to spend the rest of his life in prison, or be incarcerated in Coalinga State Hospital as as an SVP (Sexually Violent Predator) CIV 6600 after he is released from State Prison. People who are Pedophiles cannot be rehabilitated and must be kept out of society for the rest of their lives in order to protect children.
