Santa Maria police arrest teen for firearm violation

Santa Maria detectives arrested a 19-year-old man on Saturday evening whom they caught at a traffic stop with an unregistered firearm.

Shortly after 5 p.m., Santa Maria Police Department Gang Suppression Team detectives conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Miller and Central avenues for equipment violations. While conducting an investigation, detectives developed probably cause to search the vehicle, according to the Santa Maria Police Department.

Detectives searched the car and found a Glock 17 handgun concealed between the driver’s seat and center console. The gun was unregistered and had a loaded 31-round extended magazine containing 9 mm ammunition. 

The driver of the vehicle, Malachi Roslinda-Jordan, admitted it was his firearm, police said.

Detectives arrested Roslinda-Jordan, who was booked into jail. Police released the passenger of the vehicle at the scene.

The Santa Maria Police Department says it remains committed to removing illegally possessed firearms from the streets, and it is working to reduce gun violence, as well as to hold those who illegally possess guns accountable.
