Firefighters slow spread of Plaskett Fire

The Plaskett Fire burning in southern Monterey County has scorched 29,768 acres with 23% containment. With cooling temperatures, fire behavior has slowed.

“Steep, rugged terrain and heavy vegetation continue to slow crews’ access and progress, “according to Cal Fire. “Suppression operations and control-line reinforcement are ongoing, with structure defense and protection of critical infrastructure remaining top priorities.”

Evacuation orders remain in effect in Monterey County, with evacuation warnings extending into San Luis Obispo County.

Further north, the Timber Fire has burned 25,346 acres, with 25% containment and little growth on Wednesday.

Went up to Ragged Point last Wednesday (2 Sept), and it is practically evacuated. The Inn, restaurant, snack bar, store, and gas pumps all locked up. I did not see very many cars at the Inn itself, and none in the regular parking lot, so I’m guessing travelers have been advised to skedaddle.
