Man charged with murder for DUI crash that killed unborn baby

A 46-year-old man faces two murder charges for a wrong-way crash on Highway 101 that killed a Grover Beach man, seriously injured a pregnant woman from Atascadero and caused the death of her unborn child.

David Worthington Ross is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 8 on charges of second-degree murder, second-degree murder of a human fetus, DUI and driving the wrong way on a divided highway. Ross is also charged with eight enhancements that include injuries to three other victims in the five-car crash.

On Aug. 26, Christyna Railsback was driving southbound on Highway 101 on the Cuesta Grade with her boyfriend 55-year-old Cezar Roy on Aug. 26 when a truck driven by Ross crashed head-on into her black Dodge Charger. Roy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Responders transported Ross and Railsback to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment of major injuries. Doctors performed an emergency C-section on Railsback, who was 28-weeks pregnant. The infant did not survive.

After he spent five nights in the hospital, officers booked Ross in San Luis Obispo County Jail where he is being held without bail.

In your compassion for the victims, and your righteous anger toward the perpetrator, please save some heart for those first responders who felt crushing pain and sadness as they worked to save that baby and saw the aftermath of the trauma in the parents. I have family members and friends working in that ER and see some of the toll it takes. Paramedics and cops too.

What a society that we’ve become. It’s a murder when it occurs in a automobile accident yet millions have died at the hands of “doctors” in clinics while many misguided people demand their “right” to kill them.
