Second person shot in Santa Maria in 24-hour span

For the second time within a span of 24 hours, a gunman shot and wounded a victim in Santa Maria.

Shortly after 8 p.m. on Saturday, a caller reported hearing gunshots on the 700 block of South Western Avenue. Officers then found a 40-year-old man who suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to the Santa Maria Police Department.

Medics, as well as Santa Maria fire personnel, arrived at the scene and rendered medical aid. Responders transported the victim to Marian Regional Medical Center for further treatment.

An investigation into the shooting remains ongoing. Investigators ask that anyone who has information related to the shooting contact the Santa Maria Police Department Communications Center at (805) 928-3781 ext. 2277 or the Anonymous Tip Line at (805) 928-3781 ext. 2677.

On Friday night, a would-be robber shot a victim in the leg in Santa Maria. After the incident, officers arrested one of the two suspects involved in the attempted robbery and shooting.
