Woman killed in crash near Atascadero

A 42-year-old woman was killed in a single car crash on Highway 41 near Atascadero on Tuesday evening.
Shortly after 10 p.m., Jenny Ritter of Ceres was headed southbound on Highway 41 near Rocky Canyon Road when the Mercedes she was driving drifted across the highway, down a dirt embankment and into a concrete drainage wall. Responders transported Ritter and her 42-year-old passenger to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.
The passenger died from her injuries at the hospital. Her name is not being released pending notification of her next of kin.
CHP officers are investigating the cause of the crash.
