John Summer exits Visitors & Conference Bureau
November 3, 2010
John Summer, the former local television news anchor, has decided to step down as executive director of the county’s Visitors & Conference Bureau (VCB) after less than a year on the job. [Tribune]
Summer’s decision, effective Nov. 1. comes just about one month after the debut of the high-profile Savor the Central Coast. Summer was the point man for the county in organizing the heavily-touted four-day food and wine event that was sponsored by Sunset Magazine.
Event organizers have already decided to bring Savor back for a second year, despite the mixed reviews and uneven attendance for this year’s initial outing.
In a news release from the VCB, Summer would only say that he has had a “wonderful career in publishing, journalism and public relations, and I’ll continue working in various media to enhance the Central Coast experience.” He will serve as a consultant to the VCB through the end of the year.
There are no plans to replace Summer at this time.
Summer first came to the Central Coast to replace Rick Martel at KSBY News. He later was one of the co-founders of Central Coast magazine.
