Tsunami 2011, event photos
March 11, 2011
In Shell Beach, the water receded dramatically on Friday morning revealing more coastline than seen at the lowest tide. When tsunami waves hit shallower coastal waters, wave height dramatically increases. Along the Central Coast, the topography of the ocean floor and steepness do not support the large tsunami surges seen in Japan.
Even though the following pictures look as if they were taken at high tide and low tide, they were actually taken just a few minutes apart by attorney Jim McKiernan.
