Drive-by killer gets 158 years

A Santa Maria man was sentenced Monday to 158 years in state prison for the drive-by murder of Arroyo Grande teenager Gabriel Salgado.
The youth was gunned down Nov. 17, 2011, by Armando Yepez while standing on a street corner in Oceano with a number of other young men.
Yepez, 22, is a reputed gang member who chose victims indiscriminately, according to prosecutors.
An effort by Yepez to gain a new trial was denied just prior to his sentencing.
