Obama protester is former San Luis Obispo County employee

June 5, 2013

michelle ObamaFirst Lady Michelle Obama confronted a protester Tuesday night during a Democratic Party fundraiser at a private home in Washington, D.C. The protester, lesbian activist Ellen Sturtz, is a former San Luis Obispo County employee who served as the local cable franchise coordinator during the 1990’s.

According to press pool reports, Sturtz, 56, interrupted Obama repeatedly during the First Lady’s remarks to demand that President Obama sign an anti-discrimination executive order. Obama showed her displeasure by pausing to confront Sturtz eye to eye. [WashingtonPost]

“One of the things that I don’t do well is this,” Obama said to applause from most of the guests, according to a White House transcript. “Do you understand?”

Obama left the lectern and moved directly in front of Sturtz, who had paid $500 to attend the event.

“Listen to me or you can take the mic, but I’m leaving,” Obama said. “You all decide. You have one choice.”

The audience responded by asking Obama to remain and a woman next to Sturtz told her, “You need to go.”

Sturtz was escorted out of the room. She said later in an interview she was stunned by Obama’s response.

“She came right down in my face,” Sturtz said. “I was taken aback.”

The proposed executive order that prompted Sturtz’s outburst would prohibit federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Sturtz, originally from New York, lived in Sacramento before moving to the Central Coast in 1993 to become the county cable franchise coordinator. Her primary job was to provide oversight for all issues relating to cable television in the county, a job that eventually led to repeated clashes between her and Charter Communications. The position was abolished in the early 2000’s and Sturtz left Los Osos for Los Angeles before eventually moving to Washington, D.C.

I would have paid $500 just to see Michelle Ma Belle behaving badly.

Just watch anything she does, and it’s free… well, not really, we’re all going to pay in the end.

If bush would have reported to thug like tactics with the media whores like code pink, he would have been investigated by congress, when our gracious First Lady does it, it is simply an out of control heckler. Thee Obamas are sure angry b*tches wow.

False! The whiny GOP was crying about Anyone not supporting a wartime president was un patriotic.

If the heckler had been a member of a conservative pro marriage group, the whiney leftists would accuse the whole group of being racists. Why aren’t you calling the gay agenda heckler a racist for heckling our first Black First Lady?

BRAVO citizen!!!!!!!!!!!!

“If”

Because she is a public figure and the person “heckling” her disagreed with the opinion Mrs. Obama was voicing.

Mrs. Obama was out of line to demean herself and the office of the First Lady by getting into a virtual hair-pulling fight with a member of the public.

It is embarrassing. SHE is embarrassing.

I’m a life-long liberal and member of the Democratic Party, and I cannot put into words how much I loathed the Bush Jr administration. However, I always very much appreciated how Laura Bush administered the office of the First Lady. She was/is classy and was an asset to our nation.

Well said Mary…

First of all, it is unfair to compare the First Lady with bush, as she is not the President. Compare apples with apples – First Lady to First Lady. In 2004 when Laura Bush was campaigning for bush, the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq interrupted Laura’s campaign speech. The mother, who lost her son fighting for America, was arrested by the Bush Administration for interrupting Laura. Hmmmm, and who is angry?

Downtown Bob, you have a convient memory.

Compare apples to apples. Hecklers need to stop.

Yeah, let’s just let those in power remain unopposed. Maybe the “heckler” cannot get the in-the-tank media to hear her side, so this was her only outlet? She didn’t even “heckle” really, but wanted to know when Baby O would keep his promises (any of them) from 6+ years ago.

Not a “heckling” in my opinion, but your mileage may vary.

I would also like to know when Mr. Obama plans to keep those promises he made 6 years ago.

do you have supporting data for the arrest?

thanks. and Laura had her arrested?

tomsquawker, it seems that if Laura admitted to having the mother of a son who fought and died for this country arrested, you would find someway to justify the action.

bad jump in thinking. but then, aren’t wars?

that mother was truly hurting and i hate to see anyone lose their child. she was removed from the room. after that, it is out of the control of the room and into the hands of the local authority and the secret service, not in the hands of any political regime. it was a very sad state of events but not attributable to any one political party. what starts as a discussion of a current event seems to deteriorated to a simplistic, unthinking accusation of one party or another. stay focused.

tomsquawk,

The “faction” that Laura represented arrested her, aka, the Republicans of the then present administration allowed it to happen. Get it?

Sorry, you can’t have your cake and eat it too.

i don’t know about the local yokels but i know what the secret service has to do

Lie, she was not arrested for “by the Bush Administration for interrupting Laura”. She was arrested outside of the building for impeding traffic by the Hamilton police. Your Alinsky spin doesn’t work here comrade.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/09/17/bush.protester/

Maxconfusion, I don’t know where you got the misinformation that she was arrested for impeding traffic because you are wrong. Sue Niederer was forcibly removed from the Bush-Cheney rally. She had a rally ticket. During Laura’s speech, she shouted, “Why did my son have to die?” and “When are yours going to serve?” (Asking when bush’s children would serve in the military.)

Sue Niederer was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police van by the Secret Service and local police. She was not impeding traffic.

Very Karl Rove of you.

The mother that As the world turns claims was arrested by Laura Bush is member of Military Families Speak Out, a far left group funded by none other than George Soros. It was organized by the “union activist” Charley Richardson. The protestor in question had a record of disrupting events connected to the Bush administration.Like the fanatics at Code Pink it is primarily a hate George Bush “organization” that has never disrupted anObama event. Another prominent member of this “organization” is the silver tongued genius Cindy Sheehan. Enough said.

You know what? When your facts interfere with my personal world view, just keep them to yourself, OK!?

(lol)

Red herring. Guilt by association.

It does not matter what group Sturtz belongs to. As long as the group operates legally, including filing tax information which is correct, and does not commit crimes or break laws/regulations in its activities, it is like other groups…advocates of certain opinions.

I can certainly understand a grieving mother, whose son was slaughtered in GWBush’s “Operation Ego Prop” (aka the Iraq invasion/disaster), being angry at that president. Same with a mother who lost one of their children in any of Obama’s vanity invasions, occupations and wars in other countries. She certainly has good reason to be furious at Obama over that.

And she has the right to speak those opinions in venues and events.

The political advocacy groups the mother belongs to and the politicians she has supported or opposed has nothing to do with the validity of her opinion. It in no way detracts from it.

Of course, that was wrong. However, Mrs. Bush did not personally confront the “heckler.”

In addition, I don’t think it is a good idea for First Families to interfere with the actions of their security detail.

Mrs. Bush was not in charge of her security detail.

Look, I am old enough to remember the assassination of JFK and RFK, and the attack on President Reagan which could have so easily have ended his life.

So how about we let the security detail deal with issues surrounding the public appearances of our presidents and prominent politicians and their families.

I’m really tired of these hecklers. Just let people speak.

This is too funny. Whichever side of the fence you’re on, you have to realize the Obamas are not the friendly folks they present. They are Chicago heavy hitters, and this lady learned her little lesson.

Mrs. Obama certainly is not ready for First-Lady primetime, that’s for sure.

REALLY? She has to escalate a situation of a simple heckler into a face-to-face confrontation?

If she cannot handle a heckler situation any better than throwing around her second-hand power, I suggest she just stay home.

Ready to escalate? The heckler escalated it by running her mouth. I see pictures bitching about the Obamas not respecting the office of the president by not wearing a tie but heckling them is o.k?

YES, “heckling” them is okay, especially since “heckling” is a highly subjective term.

It is up to security to deal with crowd situations.

Lord help us all, I have the feeling Michelle Obama may be running for president in 2016.

There are better ways to handle it than escalating it into a face-to-face confrontation.

By demonstrating to the whole freaking world that a simple heckler can turn Mrs. Obama into a reactive ninny, Mrs. Obama shows her weakness in this area.

I think Mrs. Obama just ensured that there will be lots more heckling in the future.

yeah, she did take the bait

It wasn’t someone in to crowd. it was a private setting

…and it wasn’t a “heckle” – more of an interrupting question. Rude, sure, but not an “in-your-face” type heckle, at least.

Still, the moral of this story: the Princess will NOT be interrupted! Period!

Don’t mess with a lame duckett…
