The fire broke out around 2:20 a.m. in an apartment in the 22800 block of El Camino Real in the Santa Margarita area. The fire burned through the apartment roof, according to Cal Fire.

More than five engines responded to the fire, and firefighters contained the blaze by 3:02 a.m.

The person taken to the hospital suffered burns.

Once again a lowly all volunteer fire department is first on scene, takes command and IC, starts the initial attack on the fire with water, calls for additional resources, saves adjoining structures and assists CALFIRE. What’s not to like?

A big thanks to the Santa Margarita Vounteer Fire Department, the volunteers that practice the drills, first aid, public health and safety plus good citizenry on their own dime.
