Steven York, 51, ran a stop sign in Santa Ynez around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and crashed his motorcycle into the back of a Volkswagen Jetta. York suffered major injuries but survived.
An 80-year-old individual was driving the Jetta. The driver did not suffer any injuries.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, but CHP officials say York did not appear to be under the influence at the time of the collision.
