vista pointOne person was killed and two others injured when they were hit by a train near Vista Point in Santa Barbara County on Saturday.

Shortly before 6 p.m., two men and two women in their 20s were talking photos of a sunset from the tracks on the Vista Point trestle, just north of Refugio State Beach, when they saw a train come from around a corner. They tried to outrun the train, but three were struck.

One of the women was thrown from the trestle and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Another victim was airlifted to Cottage Hospital with major injuries and the third was transported to a hospital with moderate injuries.

They were reportedly “scholars” visiting at UCSB. Book learning won’t trump common sense when it comes to surviving in the real world. Sorry for them and their families.

Horrific…

Like I tell my kids, before you act ask yourself outloud and honestly answer the question

“What could happen to me if I…”?

Incredibly sad situation, condolences to the families of these young people.

Sad but preventable.
