Bay Area law enforcement tangled in sex scandal

June 13, 2016

Police carThe daughter of an Oakland police dispatcher, who began working as a prostitute at age 12, says she had sex with 24 current and former officers from five cities. Oakland’s police chief resigned last week in advance of the revelations, and an Oakland officer who was formerly in a sexual relationship with the Richmond woman committed suicide last year. [ABC News]

At least 14 Oakland police officers, five Richmond police officers, four Alameda County sheriff’s deputies, one Livermore officer and a law enforcement worker based in Stockton had sex with her, the woman said. She slept with three of the officers prior to turning 18 last August, she said.

One former officer she slept with was a retired Oakland police captain in his 80s. The retired captain paid $250 to have sex with her in a motel, she said.

Last year, Oakland officer Brendan O’Brien committed suicide and left a note naming law enforcement personnel involved with the Richmond woman. O’Brien was the first officer the woman met, and the two entered a sexual relationship after he defended her from a pimp.

Other officers soon followed. The officers were her protectors, the woman said. She did not have a pimp at the time, and the officers made her feel safe. They nicknamed her “juve,” short for juvenile, she said.

On Thursday, Oakland Police Chief Sean Whent resigned. Whent gave no reason for his departure.

The Oakland Police Department is already under federal oversight due to failures to hold officers accountable for misdeeds.

why do we even have police? their integrity sucks.

Stories like this make it apparent that there are too many problems with integrity in many police departments. However, like most other reporting, the emphasis is on the negatives and make such incidents seem proportionally much greater than they actually are on a national scale. We do need law enforcement officers and the majority of them are capable of doing a good job.

We just need to insist that the bad ones are dealt with at least as harshly as any regular citizen who does the same things. There’s no need to “throw the baby out with the bathwater”, we just need to make sure the dirty bathwater is disposed of properly.

“We just need to insist that the bad ones are dealt with” but yet they seldom are and then the police wonder why the public has such low respect for them. Maybe if they changed the public would too.

I respectfully disagree. We do not need police. They are a huge economic drain on our society and are also the cause of far more crime than they prevent. Law enforcement has become a greed driven and self-serving syndicate with absolutely no regard for public safety.

Just wait till our local cops catch on to this clever method of revenue generation:

Or how about showing up at the wrong address and shooting the homeowner for the heck of it?

It is becoming more and more difficult to find anything to feel good about in this world.

Surprise, surprise, surprise. The biggest crooks and degenerates are among our law enforcement agencies.

A higher penalty; like that of getting ticketed in a construction zone should apply to any LEO that is caught and convicted of criminal behavior. They have training and a higher knowledge of the law and should be treated more harshly for breaking it.

Any felony conviction should cause loss of pensions and benefits. Hold them to a higher standard.

O’Brien’s wife, Irma Huerta Lopez, died June 16, 2014. Her death was ruled a suicide, but was briefly classified by homicide detectives as a potential criminal investigation.

….what’s the old saying? Oh, police officers often end up marrying social workers, nurses or hookers.

… or all three.

Proverbs 23:27-28 says, “For a prostitute is a deep pit…. Like a bandit she lies in wait, and multiplies the unfaithful among men.”

Was true 3000 years ago, Still true today, and will be true always.

Applying this proverb to this situation is REALLY not helpful. The “prostitute” in this story was victimized as a CHILD through zero fault of her own. To suggest that she was amoral and victimized these disgusting cops is truely reprehensible.

Try looking at it from a different perspective. As an admonishment to men to avoid prostitutes. All of them.

Yes. I hear your statement is about the morality of prostitution based on Proverbs, which predates Christianity by hundreds of years. I just do not see how it would apply here.

The victim may have received a bit of money but, as a juvenile victimized since age 12, she is a victim nonetheless. This means the officers are not patrons of prostitution but predators who should be dealt with very harshly.

The article didn’t say the officers were having sex with her at age 12, but that she had been in the business since age 12. Maybe they took advantage when she was 16 or 17 ?? The one old guy did pay her 250 bucks, so there was that.

I say let the cops reap what they sowed. I’d also like to see her mother, who certainly was not helpless as a dispatcher, be raked over the coals too.

There goes the local budget, time for another tax increase at this self-help city.

Prosecute these disgusting criminals to the full extent of the law.

They also deserve to lose all benefits.

This is outrageous!

Will never happen, retirements will happen with pension all intact and the taxpayers paying for it all.

Won’t happen is right, they will give them 48 hours to tell their wives and then let them quit. That is part of the thin blue line sorry to say.

Immorality reigns! Our American society is falling into chaos due to the people turning their backs on God and His Ten Commandments.. And it’s not going to get any better in the years to come, unless there is a new awakening! God will not be mocked!
