21 coronavirus cases in SLO County, one person in the ICU

March 21, 2020

A San Luis Obispo County resident is in the intensive care unit at a local hospital after testing positive for the coronavirus. As of Saturday afternoon, 21 county residents have tested positive for the virus, though it is expected many more have been infected.

Twenty of the infected individuals are recovering at home.

Cases by county region:

  • Eight in the North County
  • Seven in the South County
  • Five on the coast
  • One in the San Luis Obispo area

On Thursday, Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered the state’s 40 million residents to stay home and for many businesses to close. And while many are complying with the mandate, there are some business owners and residents who have chosen to violate the order.

Increases in the number of cases in California have been rapid, as of Saturday afternoon, there have been more than 1,200 positive cases and 24 deaths.

The first confirmed case in the United States occurred just north of Seattle on Jan. 21. Two months later, more than 18,000 U.S. residents have tested positive for the virus, and more than 200 have died.

In addition, the number of people infected by the virus worldwide continues to jump: more than 304,540 cases with more than 12,970 dead.

And to add insult to injury, the orange commander of usa is calling it the Chinese virus. Yep, sprinkle some racist hate into a pandemic for flavor for your KKK constituents.

Coronavirus Timeline Synopsis

It is Trump in his incompetent salesperson mode at its finest.

Remember, top health officials first learned of the virus’s spread in China on January 3rd, US Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said Friday, March 20th. Throughout January and February, intelligence officials’ warnings became more and more urgent, according to the Washington Post and by early February, much of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the CIA’s intelligence reports were dedicated to warnings about Covid-19.

All the while, Trump downplayed the virus publicly, telling the public the coronavirus “is very well under control in our country,” and suggesting warm weather would neutralize the threat the virus poses.

The administration did begin taking some limited action about a month after Azar says the administration first began receiving warnings, blocking non-citizens who had been to China in the last two weeks from entering the country on February 3rd. A move public experts have argued at best bought the US time to ramp up its testing capabilities, which it did not use, and at worst had no beneficial effects at all.

Trump finally assembled a task force to address the virus, putting Vice President Mike Pence in charge of the effort on February 26th, and declared a national emergency on March 13st. And, just this week, nearly three months after first receiving warnings from his intelligence officials, the president’s public tone about the crisis shifted: “I’ve always known this is a real. This is a pandemic,” he said Tuesday as he admitted, “[the virus is] not under control for any place in the world.”

March 4: Trump: “If we have thousands of people that get better just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work – some of them go to work, but they get better.”

March 6:Trump : “I think we’re doing a really good job in this country at keeping it down… a tremendous job at keeping it down.”

March 8: Trump: “We have a perfectly coordinated and fine tuned plan at the White House for our attack on Coronavirus.”

March 10: Trump : “It will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.”

March 13: National Emergency Declaration.

Thats cuz he’s an idjit

I appreciate the fatcs, and am extremely dissapointed in how feelings are hurt by this by a certain demographic, many of them initial deniers of this pandemic just like Donald Dump, and also how aweful of a job the potus is doing, just like his bankrupt Casinos and multiple bankruptcies.

Disingenuous, your counting as an accomplishment the creation of a faulty test kits on February 6th, LOL; photo opportunities with Modi, LOL; Trump donating a 1/4 of his salary, LOL; various airport travel restrictions (only if we would have had working test kits); and announcements of FUTURE funding plans and FUTURE efforts on vaccines. YOU ARE REALLY STRETCHING.

The worst example: “February 6: The CDC began shipping CDC-Developed test kits for the 2019 Novel Coronavirus to U.S. and international labs.”

Since according to you the CDC made test kits February 6th, try and get one of those kits now. You can’t. They were defective.

You can’t get tested even now unless in the hospital and maybe not even then in some locales, 3/22/20, 79 DAYS AFTER THE VIRUS WAS KNOW TO THE ADMINISTRATION.

The fact of the matter is, we chose not to use the international working test kits that were available when the virus hit. Without working test kits, we could not do what South Korea did, where they effectively tested and quarantined the infected population.

Your response, and litany of events that are not relevant to the spread of the disease, proves my point, that the US was behind due to the Trump’s administration’s poor decisions, including dismantling of the National Security Council and Department of Homeland Security epidemic teams in 2018.

You should change your media source to one that is intellectually honest not into partisan deflection and cover up.

But you’re at least not calling it a HOAX anymore.

Based on your criteria, you should work at the New York Times.

I have the London bridge to sell you. Very cheap. Please call.

It’s Trump, the guy embezzled 500 million, bankrupt 3 times at least, and sues anyone who says he’s orange. He’s salmon, not orange.

Trump fired the government’s global health experts in May 2018 and did not replace them.

Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer, the senior director of GLOBAL HEALTH SECURITY and biodefense at the National Security Council (NSC) was fired May 10, 2018 and his office eliminated. The Global Health Security unit was shut down inside the agency in May 2018. All by Trump.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/to-your-health/wp/2018/05/10/top-white-house-official-in-charge-of-pandemic-response-exits-abruptly/

Trump also fired Department of Homeland Security (DHS) adviser Tom Bossert on the NSC who coordinated the response to global pandemics, and Dr. Luciana Borio, the National Security Council director for medical and biodefense preparedness also left the NSC.

None of these positions were filled. Neither the NSC nor DHS epidemic teams have been replaced except eventually by Mike Pence and Jared Kushner with their vast medical knowledge.

Further, the global health section of the Center for Disease Control was so drastically cut by Trump in 2018 that much of its staff was laid off and number of countries it was working in was reduced from 49 to 10.

The federal government was purged of global health experts when we needed them.

rOy “fun and dramatic to follow “scary news” and get over-hyped” … rOy I hope you are not going to regret those words.

As more testing kits become available and used (and results come sooner with newer test kits) we will undoubtedly see a massive spike in cases.

I fully believe there are (and have been) many people who were infected, mildly, before any quarantining was done.

While it is fun and dramatic to follow “scary news” and get over-hyped; I think we’re in a place where we realized it was over-hyped, but don’t want to say it, as we also do not want to under-hype it. We’ll all get it sooner or later. Heck, I read that blood type A is much more susceptible, but who knows…

A little too early for the “mission accomplished” declaration there rOy.

I am happy that you believe what you do, but I prefer to defer to medical professionals. “We” are not all in agreement that this is over-hyped.

We’re not not even to the mid-innings of the ballgame, with our pitching staff about to get lit up.

Thanks Cal Coast Dr. think we should listen to the professionals

38 positive for coronavirus in NYC jails, including Rikers

https://apnews.com/54dbc9d47f62cf0c0240314310cfe909

Gov. NOSENSE has already indicated he will be letting them out of jail/prison.

Yeah, if only our CDC didn’t have budget cuts from the potus states wouldn’t be flailing and everyone confused.

Three California Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation employees tested positive today. None at CMC but it will be soon.

SLO County’s two largest employers are CMC and ASH. ASH has over 2100 employees that care for apprx. 1200 male patients that have committed violent felonies and and have severe mental disorders. During any given 24 hour period more than more than 600 Level of Care staff care for patients who are sometimes violent and some who cannot maintain basic hygienic practices such as showering and hand washing and are frequently incontinent. THESE ARE PSYCHIATRIC TECHNICIANS AND RN’S WHO HAVE DIRECT CONTACT WITH the MOST VULNERABLE YET DANGEROUS POPULATION. CMC has over 6000 inmates in a facility built for under 3400. It employs appr. 1800 staff. COVID-19 will spread like wild fire when it is introduced to these facilities. Once staff starts to be put on quarantine and test positive, the staffing shortages will cause already dangerous environments to become UNMANAGEABLE. What is Gov. Newsom’s plan for managing State Prisons and State Hospitals during this crisis?

SLO County has TWO of these facilities. SLO Public Health has not addressed this at all. I have left message after message for them to ask what is planned. NO REPLY! Why is SLO COUNTY MEDIA,not asking these questions. GET ON THIS! This is unprecedented times. We are talking about 4000 OF OUR RESIDENTS who are working the front lines of this crisis as ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL.

No reply because, quite honestly, they don’t have time to respond to someone nagging about things they already have procedures and processes for. You don’t need to know their plan right now. Decision makers, planners at ASH, etc can hash it out without you being a thorn in their side.

Stop distracting them and take a chill pill!

“You don’t need to know their plan right now.” YES I DO! Myself and many other employees there have to make some very tough decisions. There are many of us who are at high risk for serious complications because of of our age or health history. We are considered ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEES and must still go to work no matter what our age and health history! Hundreds of employees are over the age of 65+ or have numerous high risk issues such as diabetes, heart disease etc. or have family members who live in their household that do. If we decide not to go to work we have to use sick time that we have accrued and not get paid if we run out. We ALL have to make some very tough decisions about: Who will care for my children while the schools are closed? What if I get sick and give the virus to my 80 year old mother who lives with me? If I am at high risk myself, when should I start calling in sick? After I start getting symptoms? Yes, decision makers and planners are having to cope with “hashing things out” in unprecedented circumstances from the president to the governor to congress to the executives at ASH. BUT I AM ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE for myself and my family. I have a RIGHT to know what plans are being made so I can make the best decisions for those that I love.
