SLO County coronavirus cases jump to 54

While San Luis Obispo County attempts to negotiate an agreement with Cal Poly for the creation of a temporary medical facility at the recreation center, the number of U.S. residents infected with the coronavirus surges by both Italy and China. The United States now leads the world in coronavirus cases, 85,088.

Even though the county has yet to receive a firm commitment from Cal Poly, the county is moving ahead with ordering supplies and equipment.

Officials plan to use the “alternative care facility” as a “step down site” for patients who have been discharged from the hospital, but still need medical care. It is expected the facility will be operational by April 8.

As of Thursday afternoon, of the 54 San Luis Obispo County residents who have tested positive for the virus, five are in the hospital — with one in intensive care, 10 people have recovered, and 39 of the infected individuals are recuperating at home.

Cases by county region:

  • 25 in the North County
  • 15 in the South County
  • Nine on the coast
  • Five in the San Luis Obispo area

Three San Luis Obispo County individuals with the Coronavirus are under 19 years of age, 34 are between the ages of 19 to 64, and 17 are 65 and above.

Increases in the number of cases in California continue to grow at an rapid rate. As of Thursday afternoon, there have been 4,002 positive cases and 82 deaths.

Currently, more than 85,088 U.S. residents have tested positive for the virus, and 1,290 have died.

In addition, the number of people infected with the virus worldwide continues to increase: 531,373 cases with more than 24,058 dead.

I don’t know if it was nuts to ban them or not, but it most certainly is nuts to allow un-elected bureaucrats to alter our lives because of some ideological propaganda that they are highly susceptible to… that’s just stupid and dangerous overall. Bags are minuscule compared to what they’re about to do (starting to do).


Mark my words, we’re going to WISH for the days when minor, unaccountable bureaucrats only told us how to live and what we could and could not buy. We’ll be pining for those days soon enough.

You say so many cases in different areas why don’t you specify the town. Also I hear they are closing numerous parking areas by beach’s but say you can still walk on the beaches. Where do they propose for you to park to do this. These are trying times but I think the reporting of this could go deeper.

In some European Countries they have employees in the aisles to monitor number of people, and make sure that they are keeping safe distance for each other.

It doesn’t matter how many or how close. What really matters is who touches what and walks away. All it takes is one person, and everyone else can be infected (6 feet apart) for days…


I mean, short of breathing/farting/coughing/sneezing on someone or in their proximity, distancing is only here to slow the rate of hospitalizations that are coming. Stretch those out over months or a year instead of days or weeks.

I agree, I’d like to see some articles on the policies/procedures of markets and vendors, etc.


Heck, even something on the Fomites wrt to this Corona Virus from China, and how long they live and on what kind of surfaces, etc. I do know they live on paper/cardboard for up to 4 days (I think it was), but on hard surfaces (like what are required by law for kitchens/restaurants/markets) it can be over a week.

this surface reporting is driving me crazy. of the 5 in the hospital, how many are over 65 or were compromised due to asthma, smoking, vaping etc. whats the breakdown of the positive tests? otherwise, its just sensational headline grabbing.

nunsense, This virus effects the young, the healthy, and those with healthy habits. There are examples, after examples, after examples on the internet. There are different virus strains, and a lot depends on how deep in the lungs it infects. Exercising your lungs, improving lung capacity is a great.

Not sure why you got marked down for this one, you are correct. Lung Health is likely a key factor. I think the “scary” part is: even young people, with either unknown or undiagnosed/early respiratory/blood issues are impacted as well.


Elderly is always a high-risk group, there’s no surprise here. When I started seeing the reports of late teens / early 20’s dropping dead, that’s when I began to realize, this is going to be a math problem. Some percentage of the world will die from this. Period. The odds of being saved are pretty slim due to the timing (too many, too fast).


Italy has instructed it’s elderly (basically) to not even come to a hospital if you’re over the age of 60, as doctors have been ordered not to treat you. Triage. Whole Lives System. Death Panels, as it were. (*gasp* Sarah was right?! no way)

Might have to do with the fact that no one is impressed with cheap shots from a Monday morning quarterback. But I don’t know for sure.

After some thought, I came up with a coupla more reasons. Taking comments out of context reminds ppl of the yellow journalism that is so prevalent these days.


Another reason might be that no other Governor, Mayor etc has done a better job of stopping the spread of the virus, In our Federalist system, they have the power and responsibility to deal with local problems. I am not blaming them, just pointing out that their records are by no means any better.

I merely point out that over confidence, as the quotes of the president highlight, have consequences. Deadly consequences.


A modicum of critical thinking will be beneficial to your health.
