SLO and Pismo Beach get new police chiefs

Pismo Beach City Manager Jim Lewis announced today that he has selected San Luis Obispo’s interim police chief Jeff Smith to head the Pismo Beach Police Department.

For the past 18 years, Smith has worked for the SLO Police Department, serving as chief since Oct. 2020.

“Jeff Smith embodies the qualities that our community has come to expect from the men and women of the Pismo Beach Police Department; humility, honor, trust, selflessness, and service,” Lewis said. “As an accomplished law enforcement professional, Jeff has served proudly and gained the respect and admiration of those that work alongside him.”

The City of San Luis Obispo has selected Rick Scott to serve as their new police chief. Scott is currently employed as the assistant police chief in North Richland Hills, Texas, a city of over 70,000 residents.

“Addressing the historic impact of systemic racism and racial bias in policing was a key consideration in selecting the city’s new police chief,” said City Manager Derek Johnson. “Also, at the top of the list was finding someone who could support and implement meaningful solutions to homelessness, mental health challenges, substance abuse, and other complicated issues that are priorities to address in our community.”

Of course they are embarrassed to mention salaries and compensation. After all its just taxpayer money. I bet they are both getting north of 300k per year.

Can someone give me any examples in the past twenty years of “systemic racism and racial bias in policing” in the City of SLO?

Can someone give me examples of where police officers were able to “implement meaningful solutions to homelessness, mental health challenges, substance abuse”? Sounds like problems the City Manager Johnson, County Health and County social workers should be handling instead of delegating to officers.

Maybe Manager Johnson can write an article outlining the efforts and progress he has made in implementing his “meaningful solutions” to these intractable problems.

Uhhhh, yeah. I read in the Trib where some black individual claimed they were “given the eye” at a supermarket and “followed around” in the same store.

I had to clean my boots after reading that article!

I see Derek Johnson’s name popped up giving his approval of the new chief ,his approval doesn’t carry much weight.Derek gave Chris Olcott a pay raise and job promotion knowing he would be terminated in future for punching a woman at Mr.Ricks .Basically guaranteeing a healthier termination salary and retirement for Olcott

It seems these type of articles used to contain salary and compensation information, previous persons compensation and new persons. Why have they stopped including this information?

So we wouldn’t lose our lunch?

Let me translate that last paragraph for you: “We found the most Progressive person possible for this position.”

What a joke, it sounds like SLO hired a puppet to support the councils liberal talking points. There is no “systemic racism” at SLOPD so he can say he solved it on his first day. This guy coming from Texas is going to regret coming to SLO where the city administration is more of a problem than criminals.

Nothing about fighting crime.

As if they’re going to solve “homelessness” and “substance abuse”. Do these clueless bureaucrats really think that there is some governmental answer or do they just keep putting out these talking points for the rest of the naive sheeple?

Good lock to both of them. May their highest priority be the protection of the citizens in each city and the rule of law. May they never compromise these, to be politically correct. Hold all accountable to the law.

What is the salary and benefit package?
