Pride flag to fly over Arroyo Grande City Hall in June

May 27, 2021

By KAREN VELIE

In an attempt to promote inclusion and diversity, the Arroyo Grande City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to approve the flying of Pride flags during the month of June at City Hall and at Heritage Square Park.

Pride is celebrated annually in June, with a goal of achieving equal justice and equal opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. City officials hope that flying a Pride flag will help promote inclusion and stop hate.

The council agreed to fly Progress Flags, which are a combination of the traditional Rainbow Flag with the addition of a five-colored chevron, in support of transgender and bisexual people.

“Tonight, the Arroyo Grande City Council took a small, but important step towards a more inclusive community and unanimously approved the establishment of a City Flag Display policy and authorized display of the LGBTQ Pride flag at City Hall and Heritage Square Park for Pride Month in June,” the city posted on social media.

I sure miss the days when we could all gather under one flag….I guess those days are gone….

Only if we let the be. May I suggest we stop listen and reading nonsense about nonissues.

Only if we let it (sp) be … in other words, only if we allow others to divide us over nonissues, nothing burgers.

Your correct sir. Look no farther for the cause than our public education from grammar schools to the no growing fascist universities across this nation and those spewing the hate for this nation to our youth in the classrooms with no accountability. The indoctrination has been going on so long that those taught this are now being elected to public office. Sad and horrific days to come as we are seeing already.

That’s the plan

Sorry, but I don’t know what’s uglier, the flag or the decision to raise it.

May I suggest to the city council members that they continue to promote “inclusion”, and “stop the hate” theme, by flying the “Blue Line Flag” at city hall and Heritage Square Park for the month of July? Wouldn’t that send a message of pride, respect, acceptance, and sincere care for the Police Office’s that put their lives on the line daily to protect them and all the citizens of A.G.? Anything less would be disrespectful, un-inclusive, divisive, and disgraceful to the the Police Officer’s and a black mark for your whole community. I won’t hold my breath for that happen.

The problem here is that what you are saying is absolutely correct which is why it is socially and politically unacceptable today.

Let’s be real, AG isn’t flying the gay flag over city hall to show inclusion, they are flying it to show how woke they are and virtue signaling. This is California 2021, nobody cares about your sexual orientation one way or another, get over it.

Spot on Jon

Mayberry Grande is soooo woke ! Hahaha

Good intentions – bad precedent

Sexuality does not define a person, correct?

Then what is there to be proud of? I don’t get it.

Stop with the rational thought. There’s no place for it in the new system.

Flying a flag will stop hate? Interesting.

Our flagpole should only be used by our Nation and State flags. City Council you are not listening!

Flag Etiquette stickler says The U.S. flag SHALL HANG ABOVE ALL, FOLLOWED BY THE STATE FLAG,

Look at who is Running that City Council,

Liberals,

Guess who wants to run this County.

It’s past time to stand up for what’s right and what the Majority of the rest of of us feel.

What’s next?

I wonder if they would fly the Blue Line flag there?

Dumb question.

If they’re trying to promote inclusion, there are a lot more flags they’re going to have to hang up over the course of a year.

Remember when American’s flew the American flag as a symbol of our unification and PRIDE? What is happening to the PRIDE we once had in our resilient nature…..our courage….our strength as a nation? We now have this flag literally shoved up our butts whether we like it or not.

The pride we once had has been replaced with serving any minority group or organization that rears its head at a council meeting.
