Paso Robles teacher under fire over politically charged Instagram video

In response to members of the Paso Robles High School Conservative Club displaying a “f*ck Biden” flag during a pre-Veterans Day event, a teacher in the North County city posted an Instagram video of herself lashing out at the political club and saying its members could “go jump off a bridge.”

Kristin Usilton teaches at Glen Speak Elementary School. Following the anti-Biden flag incident at Paso Robles High School on Nov. 10, Usilton posted Instagram story videos in which she appears to be speaking inside a classroom.

In a video, Usilton discusses the fight for equal education for the “neglected Hispanic population.” The elementary school teachers then addresses the flag incident.

“The Paso Robles Conservative Club for the high school, you can go jump off a bridge,” Usilton stated in the Instagram story. “I’m going to post what they thought was a great show of support for the veterans, who I’m pretty sure would be absolutely offended by what they did on school campus. And had the LGBTQ population done that or the black or the Hispanic community members, we would have had our asses chewed out.”

Usilton followed those remarks by posting a video clip showing Conservative Club members displaying the anti-Biden flag.

Later in the day, Usilton posted a video attempting to clarify her remarks. [Paso Robles Press]

“When I said ‘go jump off a bridge,’ I just meant go away, and I will not use that term again because of the incredible influx of messages I got about that. But if that’s what you focused on in that message, you’re kind of part of the problem.”

The Paso Robles school district is conducting investigations into both the display of the anti-Biden flag and Usilton’s comments in her Instagram videos.

I think both sides are fine in this case, with the exception being if she’s in her classroom or on school time making the video. If she’s on her own time, then fine. Clearly she was speaking idiomatically, not that she literally wanted the club members to kill themselves.

The dividers of our people need to be exposed and weeded out of our schools and our government…we are all Americans…left…right…black…brown…white…gay or straight…we all want the same things in life…the ideological radicals like this “teacher” seems to be from this story and video are the problem in public education…we have gone from education to indoctrination…keep your politics out of my child’s classroom or quit teaching and go run for office….

While I agree with the students sentiment, it was wrong and the inappropriate place to share it. The teachers response and lack of an apology for her hateful words is very concerning. She kind of double downed on it with her foolish follow up statement. She needs to be held accountable, and apologize publicly to the students and parents.


Even the students are getting sick and tired of having political and personal agenda’s shoved down their throats constantly in the classroom. This a learned behavior from those opposite of these students during four years of our last President. They can dish it out, but can’t handle when the shoe is on the other foot.


If teachers would get back to educating instead of indoctrinating their beliefs on students, you would have less of this. The school administrator’s and school boards need to be the lead in stopping the ideology indoctrination and make sure education of students is the top priority.


I suspect if the flag said “F… Trump”, she wouldn’t have had a problem with it. Just go back and view the vile hate that teacher’s and students had, and often expressed for our last President. This was done in the classroom and campuses without consequences. It was defended and accepted as freedom of expression and speech, especially by the mainstream anti-Trump media, who fed it, and led it. It was wrong and inappropriate back then as well.

she teaches little kids.What if a student of hers wears a Trump shirt or has a maga sticker on backpack..Will she treat that kid and his/her family fairly? Can she just teach the 3 R’s and check her politics at the door please !!

The kids should have been disciplined for the flag because schools can ban vulgar speech. The teacher should keep her mouth shut and grow up.

The teacher on school property shouldn’t be making politically motivated statements just as the PRHS kids shouldn’t be making politically motivated statements. The difference is she is an employee and a grown up and the kids are just dumb kids.

The kids could’ve flown USA flags & even made political statements (free speech),foolish kids just needed to skip the F-bomb part and go off campus
