Pedestrian dies after being struck by car in Santa Maria

A vehicke struck and killed a female pedestrian in Santa Maria on Sunday evening.

Shortly before 9 p.m., Santa Maria police, as well as firefighters and medics, responded to the 100 block of West Battles Road over numerous reports of a woman struck by a vehicle. Santa Maria Fire and American Medical Response personnel immediately began performing lifesaving measures, according to the city’s police department.

An ambulance transported the pedestrian to Marian Regional Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition.

Patrol officers launched the initial investigation into the collision. The Santa Maria Police Department Traffic Unit responded to the scene and continued the investigation.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., Santa Maria police stated the victim died as a result of her injuries. Police are withholding the victim’s identity as they notify relatives of her death.

The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
