SLO County pulls proposed sales tax for roads off the ballot

The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Wednesday to remove a proposed .5% sales tax measure for transportation projects from the November ballot.

At an estimated cost of $588,000, the SLO Council of Governments (SLOCOG) had planned to place the proposed tax on the November ballot, as Measure H. However, because Measure H is unlikely to receive the two-thirds vote required to pass, the Local Transportation Authority asked SLOCOG to pull the measure.

On Wednesday morning, the SLOCOG board voted unanimously to withdraw Measure H while some members spoke of plans to place a similar measure on the 2028 ballot.

Even though the SLO County Board of Supervisors also voted to remove Measure H from the ballot, both supervisors Jimmy Paulding and Dawn Ortiz-Legg noted their support of bringing the proposed tax back in 2028.

They called it a tax for the roads, BUT big parts of it went to other organizations and as usual the bos cuts the road departments budget so if you thought it would fix roads you’d be wrong. Now if they asked for a tax on just for roads with accountability say at .02 that might fly but that will never happen.

One has to question how much of the taxpayers’ money under this tax would have gone to consultants, and how many individuals/organizations on the Committee represented those consultants.

It was interesting to read the names of the people and companies on the committee pushing the tax. Follow how the tax money would have been spent and who would have benefited (e.g., consultants).

Now, WE have OUR money back to fund the proper staffing for OUR D.A. office (as required by law).


Fix YOUR mess SLOC BOS DemoNcrats (the 3 bass awkwards votes on this issue).

Do we need to worry that support for a new tax is not there that the BOS is trying to figure out a way for new taxes that the pesky taxpayer and voters don’t need to vote on?

Now we can plan on punishment from the State because they want us to tax ourselves. There is no plan for the State to fund their liabilities unless there is more local taxes to grease the grant monies that are available because we were able to achieve new taxes, RIGHT! This is the big problem with grants, they have morphed into a special funding, separate from budget liabilities. Personally, I believe local control vs State Control has gone unchecked to the extent that our taxes are spent before local needs can even be planned for resolve. Now a days, there is a need for grant money for local staff to study the funding feasibility for unmet needs, even mandated needs. If all goes well, decades will pass before there is that needed safety improvement, remember that even deaths require a study to justify needed.
