Smoke from Big Sur drifting across San Luis Obispo County

Smoke from two wildfires burning in the Big Sur area drifted across the north and coastal regions of San Luis Obispo County on Saturday afternoon.
The Plaskett Fire, which ignited on Tuesday in southern Monterey County, exploded to 8,241 acres on Saturday. Further north, the Timber Fire has scorched 24,839, with 21% containment.
As the Plaskett fire continues to rage with no containment, more evacuation orders and warnings were issued across the region. Warnings and evacuations have been issued for Fort Hunter Liggett and nearby areas.
Highway 1 is closed south of Salmon Creek Road.
SLO County Air Pollution Control District warns “residents—particularly children, older adults, pregnant people, and individuals with heart or respiratory conditions—should be prepared to reduce outdoor activity if smoke levels increase.”
