Rush not rushing from SLO County

March 9, 2012

Radio talk show personality Rush Limbaugh may be belly deep in problems and facing nationwide criticism for his comments about women, but he is still the man in San Luis Obispo County.

Executives from both county radio stations carrying Limbaugh’s program said Thursday they have no intention of cancelling the controversial talker, as several other radio stations and a growing list of advertisers have done.

Limbaugh’s descriptions of a Georgetown University law student as a “slut” and “prostitute” after she testified before a Congressional committee regarding women’s health issues raised a national furor.

Ronald Roy, regional vice president of El Dorado Broadcasters, said Limbaugh will continue on KVEC.

“There are no immediate plans to cancel the Rush Limbaugh program at this time. We have had some e-mails and phone calls but not a lot,” wrote Roy in an email.

And Kevin Will, chief operating officer at Paso Robles’ KPRL, after ducking a reporter’s phone calls Thursday, responded with a terse email Friday which said, “Don’t know anything.”

Clear Channel, which syndicates Limbaugh’s program, has not commented on the controversy.

WHOA ! NEWSFLASH ! NEWSFLASH ! NEWSFLASH !

ALL national advertising on the Rush Limbaugh radio program HAS BEEN SUSPENDED !.

Announced @ 7:00 PM , 3-12-12 on the Lawrence O’Donnell show !

Can’t start singing “Ding-Dong the Pr*** is Dead ” yet….but the band is tuning up their instruments !

WiseGuy:” Free speech in the United States, in legal terms, does not include complete and absolute freedom to libel or slander or deceive or in other ways use speech to try to destroy people.” And what is it that you’re doing again?

I’m trying to convince business owners they should not, in any way, financially support the Rush Limbaugh show in our community. I’m trying to open up the airwaves to other voices and stop Mr. LImbaugh from hogging the public airwaves and using them to broadcast propaganda and hate-mongering that harms our community and our nation.

Far from wanting to “destroy” Rush LImbaugh. I wish to encourage him to change his ways and repent and start using his talents and money to foster peace and harmony in our world. Either that or simply retire and let more positive and productive people take over his radio airtime.

Rush has enough money to do nearly anything he wants. Retiring from his hate-radio gig will not destroy him, it will give him a chance to really live, perhaps even do some good in this world during his final years, in some hope that he can make up for all the terrible things he has done with his life so far.

Far from wanting to “destroy” Rush LImbaugh, I want him to live and love and spread goodwill around the world. He’s in a great position to do just that. If only he would wake up and do the right thing.

IN the meantime, the rest of us would do well for ourselves and for Mr. LImbaugh by not enabling his psychopathic public behavior.

This is also an opportunity for management at KVEC to step up and create a radio program that is original and unique and local and better serves our community than the hate-mongering propaganda that is the hallmark of the Rush LImbaugh show. Businesses in our community should let KVEC know they want something new and don’t want to be associated with a radio station that is known for promoting Rush LImbaugh and his sick personal agenda.

I think limbaugh is a glutton. He will never have “enough” of anything that he wants.

Freedom of speech, if you only allow what you want to hear, isn’t much of a freedom.

Free speech in the United States, in legal terms, does not include complete and absolute freedom to libel or slander or deceive or in other ways use speech to try to destroy people.

It is people like Rush Limbaugh who pose the greatest threat to free speech, because he pushes far beyond the boundaries of civil discourse and fair-play for evil, selfish, and destructive purposes. He uses the PUBLIC airwaves to disseminate lies and various forms of heinous, misleading propaganda that is at direct odds with the public good.

Rush Limbaugh is horribly wasting and abusing a vital public resource that could easily be put to better use. But Limbaugh is hogging the airwaves, polluting our community with psychopathic, violence-tinged, hate-filled rhetoric.

Yes, he may have that right, but that doesn’t mean others cannot speak up about it and encourage others not to support it.

I agree with the main premise of your post, regarding the legal parameters of “free speech.” However, it must also be noted that it usually takes very expensive, long-term legal interaction to get the courts to define (often on a case-by-case basis) what is simply opinion and what is purposeful slander, libel, or “try to destroy people.”

I do disagree regarding the “deceiving” part, however. if deception was outlawed by the First Amendment, Obama would be in jail, as would almost every politician, many salesmen, horn-dogs, ladies of the evening, and many of those who make their living on talk radio.

I think that, in the long run, what will determine whether a sponsor continues to sponsor limbaugh’s type of radio talk will be reflected in whether the sponsors listenership numbers rise or fall…or, in very large corporations who sponsor limbaugh’s talk show, if being associated with limbaugh is anticipated to have a long-term negative impact on the corporation’s brand.

In Limbaugh’s case, since he has buckets full of money, and Clear Channel has a vested interest in maintaining his freedom of speech (because it makes money for CC), I think the approach many are taking–putting pressure on those who contract to broadcast limbaugh’s radio program–is the best approach.

It does no good, in my experience, to try to ration with his listeners. I know educated people who KNOW he is lying throughout much of his broadcasts, yet still quote his fallacious memes like they are fact.

Write letters to the sponsors, as well as to newspapers who have published articles on limbaugh’s latest idiocy.

Freedom of speech, for only the most boisterous, or the most money media whores, is NOT freedom.

Saturation of media is PROPAGANDA , and the Reich-wing is replute

Seriously.

You really believe there is a difference between propaganda and opinion?

I believe limbaugh’s followers love it when the discussion gets sidetracked to “freedom of speech” issues because they cannot win this argument by logic, and so must use logical fallacies (such as the red herring “freedom of speech” issue which, IMO, if anything, works to bolster limbaugh’s side).

With the current makeup of our SCOTUS, I believe the worst “hate-talkers” would get the free-speech free-pass endorsement of the Supremes; therefore, if the legitimacy of the argument endorsing limbaugh’s current idiocy is defined by it being, or not being, a free-speech issue, limbaugh would “win” the argument and we would lose.

However, I don’t know no women who would support limbaugh using his power to so inaccurately and completely illogically describe this issue.

Trying to track limbaugh’s “reasoning,” this is how his opinion shapes up.

Looking at Limbaugh’s opinions and statements on this one issue shows how illogical and false his statements are.

*****************************************************

HERE IS THE REALITY WE STARTED WITH:

One young woman, Sandra Fluke, A Georgetown University law student, testified before House Democrats on 2/2/32012. For the text of what she testified: http://tinyurl.com/7ed2p5x

In summary, she gave first-person accounts from other students about how not having insurance coverage for birth-control pills negatively impacted their life in law school. Married female students need contraception, too. There are medical problems which are treated by BCPs, and if BCPs are not taken, far worse complications, including abdominal surgery, may be required. The cost for BCPs for one year is almost the entire summer’s salary for 40% of female law students. Of the female students who have prescriptions for medical reasons for BCPs, 65% indicate they were interrogated about the reasons for the prescription, details of the condition, etc.

Ms. Fluke also gave reasons for why the proposed “amendments” modifying the bill requiring coverage would have continued to victimize and target women.

Rush Limbaugh, on 3/1/2012, characterized Fluke’s comments in this way:

He said she is a “slut.”

He said she is a “prostitute.”

He seems to believe SFluke is talking about herself and her issues with obtaining BCPs, but SFluke gives statistics from other women. She does not discuss her own reproductive issues. If limbaugh would have read her testimony, he would have known this.

On 3/2/2012, Limbaugh said SFluke “admits to having so much sex that she can’t afford it anymore. And thus, a new welfare entitlement must be created so that society will pay for it.”

You may well ask, “How in the world could limbaugh form the opinions he expressed from what Ms. Fluke testified before the Democrats?

To answer this question, I attempted to put Limbaugh’s statements in some logical context and format, using the “logical argument” approach.

——

Premise

(repeated as necessary)

CONCLUSION

——

It didn’t work. He makes no logical statements. At best, he offers unfounded and irrational opinions. .

Here’s an outline of limbaugh’s unfounded opinions about SFluke’s testimony before the Democrats.

******************************************************

OPENING ARGUMENT (presented by Fluke, with which Limbaugh disagrees on his radio show)

(My summary of Fluke’s comments)

Birth-control pills are a necessary part of health-care for many women, to deny medical insurance coverage for BCPs places an undue burden on women (implied—but not expressed—gender discrimination), and religious institutions should not be able to deny this health-care coverage (implied—but not expressed—separation of church and state issues)

HERE IS limbaugh’s …opinion…statements…whatever…

******************************************************

=====================

***SFluke believes payment for BCPs should be paid by medical insurance companies. (true)

->THEREFORE, SFluke is a slut. (unsupported).

=====================

*** Because SFluke is a slut, she has so much sex that she cannot work enough to pay for her own BCPs. [unsupported]

THEREFORE, because SFluke believes insurance companies should pay for BCPs, SFluke is a slut who is having so much sex she cannot pay for buying her own BCPs (unsupported conclusion).

[Implied: SFluke is irresponsible because she prioritizes having sex over working hard enough to pay for her own needs] (unsupported)

==================

*** “SFluke’s BCPs are paid by an insurance company (unsupported)

THEREFORE, SFluke is getting paid to have sex. (unsupported)

==================

***SFluke does not pay for her own BCPs. (unsupported)

THEREFORE, “everyone else” is paying for SFluke’s BCPs (unsupported)

==================

***Someone who pays for sex is a “john.” (true)

THEREFORE, the “everyone else” who pays for SFluke’s BCPs are “johns.” (uses an unsupported prior statement in support of another statement; both are unsupported

[Implied: SFluke is a prostitute]

(NOTE: If SFluke is a “prostitute,” she cannot be having too much sex to hold down a job which would pay for her BCPs, since her job would be to have sex. So limbaugh contradicts himself.)

======================

BTW: The university SFluke attends, Georgetown, does not pay for student insurance. Insurance is paid 100% by the students.

I don’t think you can define “propaganda” by how much it is repeated (“saturated”).

I believe it would be an issue of “intent” or maybe even as part of a “conspiracy”?

At any rate, propaganda isn’t illegal.

The subject of this article is a pig and has proven himself highly destructive to democracy. He is a lying no account piece of trash and ought to be run out of town. The cretins who listen to him and those who actually believe any of his rantings are idiots. Go to any place where he is on and look at the ignorant inbred fools eating it up.

Apparently there are some people commenting here who don’t want us to remember when Rush Limbaugh used his platform to broadcast to the nation, calling 13-year-old Chelsea Clinton “the White House dog”. As if calling an innocent college co-ed a “slut” and a “prostitute” isn’t enough.

And those same people defend Limbaugh and claim he does not bully people. The truth is that there is rarely a day that goes by that Rush Limbaugh doesn’t use his money and influence AND the public airwaves to bully and degrade people and spread hatred throughout our nation, weakening our country and garnering disrespect from all corners of globe.

Yes, it’s true, even psychopaths have the right of free speech in this country. And that is fine by me. But we needn’t help fund that speech and we have every right to question those businesses and individuals who sponsor or in any way help perpetuate Limbaugh’s sick, psychopathic agenda that weakens our people and our nation.

BTW, Rush doesn’t pay one dime for the use of the public airwaves.

Try “sociopath” rather than psychopath

http://www.mcafee.cc/Bin/sb.html

It fits Rush to a “tee”

WiseGuy, I think you need to go re-read your posts, if someone needs anger management it’s not Rush.

I’m not angry. I’m glad the truth is becoming more clear to more people. I am pleased by that and feel good that I can play a part in spreading the truth.

But this discussion is not about me. It is about Rush Limbaugh who I believe is a psychopath who uses the public airwaves to spread his selfish, destructive , hate-filled and violent views throughout our nation. It gets more and more obvious every day. And it makes me wonder about those who refuse to acknowledge that obvious fact, and who even defend that kind of despicable public behavior in a broadcast medium that could be used in much more productive and healthy and life-affirming ways.

What a waste of resources!

Don’t confuse “anger” with “passion.”

Also, as Sun Tzu said, “It takes all types of warriors to win a war.”

You’re not going to get anywhere if all you have is mealy-mouthed ambassadors.

Is there anyone here who believes that Rush Limbaugh is NOT a literal, clinically defined, psychopath?

I look upon him as more of a propagandist.

Oh yes, that too, of course. But what I find remarkable is the pronounced psychopathic direction of Rush Limbaugh’s propaganda and the degree in which so many American’s willingly accept this as some sort of normal, or healthy behavior. Though, in most cases, I think his fans have not thought much about any of this, as Limbaugh so masterly exploits their weaknesses and fears and manipulates their emotions, while, literally discouraging critical analysis of his messages.

I have little doubt that Rush Limbaugh has carefully studied the propaganda techniques of the Nazis, who, were by all accounts, were masters in using radio as a major component in spreading their propaganda in support of their homicidal and genocidal aims, spreading fear and division throughout their nation. The Nazi regime was always quick to label dissident women as “sluts” and “prostitutes” and persons of low morals.

I think he is an indulged drug addict, and has the worst traits of the nouveaux riche trash.

I don’t know about other psychological diagnoses. He’s only on the air for a few hours a day.

Sociopath

http://www.mcafee.cc/Bin/sb.html

It is characterized by at least 3 of the following:

Callous unconcern for the feelings of others

Gross and persistent attitude of irresponsibility and disregard for social norms, rules, and obligations.

Incapacity to maintain enduring relationships, though having no difficulty in establishing them

Very low tolerance to frustration and a low threshold for discharge of aggression, including violence.

Incapacity to experience guilt or to profit from experience, particularly punishment.

Markedly prone to blame others or to offer plausible rationalizations for the behavior that has brought the person into conflict with society

http://news.yahoo.com/rush-limbaugh-spurns-plea-ex-advertiser-accepted-back-234500710.html

In the end it is all about money. Advertiser wants back into Limbaugh Show.

So, you actually believe that opinion piece, written by a notorious Limbaugh operative? The author is a opro-Limbaugh propagandist.

Don’t you realize that with his many millions of blood-sucking dollars, Limbaugh can employ hundreds of people to blog, and tweet and write opinion pieces on his behalf?

The fact is, just like with Ann Coulter, Limbaugh’s popularity has peaked. The only thing that saves Rush is his massive amounts of ill-gotten money.

NOBODY wants a political endorsement from LImbaugh, because it would be the kiss of death. It has been that way for many years now.

Everyone who works at KVEC should be ashamed that they have anything to do with broadcasting Rush Limbaugh, who will go down in history as one of the most hated, most destructive, most abusive and most divisive radio hosts in history. This is a man who hurts the U..S.A. every single day.

As far as I can tell, Rush Limbaugh shows nearly every sign of being a true psychopath, and I mean in the strict clinical sense.

Business experts and radio advertising professional are now recommending that clients don’t have their brands associated with broadcasts by Rush Limbaugh. They are concluding that radio advertisements on shows connected with Limbaugh will likely harm their business more than it could possibly help, at this time. In other words, marketing experts are concluding that the Rush Limbaugh program is toxic to healthy business.
