Gibson had affair with legislative aide

Gibson said the affair with Legislative Assistant Cherie Aispuro had lasted for a “fairly long time” during his tenure as District Two Supervisor. Aispuro, a longtime county employee, has served as Gibson’s assistant since he took office in January 2007.

While Gibson did not say when the affair began, sources reported to CalCoastNews that the supervisor was having an affair with someone in the county prior to his 2010 reelection.

Gibson said he does not plan to resign from his position, but he did say that he breached the trust of his constituents.

“Outside the hurt that I have caused in my family, I am embarrassed at the breach of trust that I have caused to occur with my constituents,” Gibson said. “Being an elected official does depend on a degree of trust between constituents and elected officials, and I feel this relationship and my concealment of it will cause people to question my integrity.”

Gibson said he first told his wife about the affair last weekend and then notified County Administrator Dan Buckshi and County Counsel Rita Neal on Tuesday.

Buckshi and Neal are investigating as to whether any misuse of county resources occurred.

“At this point, based on initial review of the situation, it appears that no county resources have been improperly used and no county policies have been violated,” Buckshi said.

County staff will reassign Aispuro, who has worked previously in the Clerk-Recorder’s Office, to a position in a different department.

Gibson, 60, described his relationship with Aispuro, who is in her early 50s, as “a matter of the heart,” but said that it did not interfere with their work.

“Both Cherie and I gave 110 percent to this job,” he said.

Gibson has two grown sons with his wife, San Luis Obispo doctor Grace Crittenden. He said he spoke up about the affair because he believed the news would spread after he told his wife.

So the county says he didn’t do anything innapropriate? How about paying your mistress $68,000 a year, for years of taxpayer money? He should have transfered her out as soon as they got together. Then he could carry on and it might wash as an “affair of the heart.”

Instead he kept her on HIS payroll working with and for him. And they took all those innocent trips at taxpayer expense to out of town conferences and meetings. Pretty cozy I’d say. Get out of town and be as open as you want and incognito right?

He might not have to resign but his political career is finished. Too bad too, I always thought Gibson would be a good replacement in the Assembly when Katcho term limits out. Hey, having an illicit affair with a staff person? Maybe he’d fit right in in Sacramento after all…

Resign before anything more sordid comes out.

NilesQ very well said.

God gave us a brain and a penis but only enough blood to run one at a time. Robin Williams

Bout sizes it all up…

Say, I wonder what Sheriff Parkinsen thinks of all this?

Why do you ask, missmuffet? Parkinson is NO SAINT, he’s a lot like Hedges in many aspects…

My, isn’t he a weird one, and isn’t this outrageous.

The great thing about hypocrisy is that it never goes out of style.

I don’t claim to know this man, but I’ve learned enough to not take seriously the notion that anyone who lets penis or vag rub against the wrong person, much less fall in love, is unfit for citizenship or public service. Virtually everyone is capable, at some point in a life, of shaking their head at how far they have strayed and how deeply they have hurt those closest to them. Look around at your family, friends, neighbors, and associates. We all have our Jerry Springer moments, and embracing the notion that they will define our entire lives and careers is a profoundly bad idea.

Hopefully you not dispense this same life sentence to yourself or loved ones.

Do the honorable thing Gibson, STEP DOWN…YOU are NOT above the law…The smart people HERE have NEVER TRUSTED YOU…now YOU have proven YOU ARE NOT TRUSTWORTHY…retire NOW & take your mistress with YOU…

Bill Clinton comes to mind here. Monica Lewinsky who?

What’s with these people in county government??

Keep Mr. Winkie in the pants… always in the pants!

Ah Ha! So it wasn’t JUST LOS OSOS Gibson hasand been SCREWING ALL THESE YEARS! Maybe people will now believe that Los Osos has been railroaded into the costliest sewer system EVER! and Gibson RAM RODDED IT THROUGH!!!

Get Shirley Bianchi to run again. We know she will never have an affair.

I am sorry for Grace and the boys.

That said, I am pleased Gibson’s political career is gyrating.

Finally, I am curious why he told all to the Trib. What worse thing could have happened if they (or more likely CCN) found out on their own? What’s the upside of him making the announcement? What worse thing did he forestall by doing this?

He may have told the Tribe because readership is down. This only points out he’s a relationship flunkie. It does make one wonder, though.

Not sure why he’d fall on his sword to spike readership for a day …

My question is why he said anything to anyone in the media? How is it better for him or his interests for him to announce he’s a dickhead? With his teflon beard, I would have expected him to remain silent and let his followers think it was a smear campaign or something.

Why is he better off now, having focussed the magnifying glass on himself, than he would have been otherwise?

He told the Trib, because he’s had the Trib in his “back pocket” for years…

The lonly logic reason IMO is blackmail. Break and tell the story on your timeframe and your way because it becomes another Uncovered Story for CCN. All of this political stuff is analyised, discussed and planned. I’m sure the plan was to do the same as his buddy, Adam Hill. Remember Mr. Hill leaving his wife and all the pain he caused in the breakup. But, that too was planned, about two years before his reelection so it could all be resolved and was old news at election time and he just slide back into office. People do not care about morals, family values or truth. Just get my person reelected so I can continue to get mine. They know how to play the game. Let’s see what Bianchi has to say about this as she is always preaching to the choir about rightousness and values. My bet is she will stand up for him, after all, he is a Democratic Party keeper!

My only question is how do we GET RID of Gibson? He is much to arrogant to step down on his own accord.

What a pompous a~~. We voted for Rodger Anderson the STAND UP man. Just shows his ARROGANCE. Step down you IDIOT!

well now we see why Gibson was so wishy washy with the whole sordid mess involving the former county admisitrator David Edge and HR Director Gaile Wilcox. If my memory serves me he was proclaiming how the public could be assured that the counties internal investigation determined that no tax dollars were misused and there was no conflict of interest. Shortly after that the county puts together a pretty hefty settlement to Wilcox. Does anyone remember how much it was?

Although I voted for you Gibson … never again. I dont care about your affair but I hate the hypocrisy here and the abuse of my tax dollars.
