Gibson had affair with legislative aide

San Luis Obispo County Supervisor Bruce Gibson admitted to having an affair with his legislative aide and said he plans to seek a divorce from his wife. [SLO Tribune]

Gibson said the affair with Legislative Assistant Cherie Aispuro had lasted for a “fairly long time” during his tenure as District Two Supervisor. Aispuro, a longtime county employee, has served as Gibson’s assistant since he took office in January 2007.

While Gibson did not say when the affair began, sources reported to CalCoastNews that the supervisor was having an affair with someone in the county prior to his 2010 reelection.

Gibson said he does not plan to resign from his position, but he did say that he breached the trust of his constituents.

“Outside the hurt that I have caused in my family, I am embarrassed at the breach of trust that I have caused to occur with my constituents,” Gibson said. “Being an elected official does depend on a degree of trust between constituents and elected officials, and I feel this relationship and my concealment of it will cause people to question my integrity.”

Gibson said he first told his wife about the affair last weekend and then notified County Administrator Dan Buckshi and County Counsel Rita Neal on Tuesday.

Buckshi and Neal are investigating as to whether any misuse of county resources occurred.

“At this point, based on initial review of the situation, it appears that no county resources have been improperly used and no county policies have been violated,” Buckshi said.

County staff will reassign Aispuro, who has worked previously in the Clerk-Recorder’s Office, to a position in a different department.

Gibson, 60, described his relationship with Aispuro, who is in her early 50s, as “a matter of the heart,” but said that it did not interfere with their work.

“Both Cherie and I gave 110 percent to this job,” he said.

Gibson has two grown sons with his wife, San Luis Obispo doctor Grace Crittenden. He said he spoke up about the affair because he believed the news would spread after he told his wife.

Whatever! The most you can give is 100% to anything. If you cannot trust a person to forgo temptation in order to honor their wedding vows, what really is sacred to them? It would be very unlikely that Mr. Gibson is more devout in county business than his marriage vow.

You’re absolutely right. Unfortunately Gibson puts his ego and his mistress ahead of those that elected him.

He will not have a problem being re-elected due to this issue. His supporters are liberals and they have no problem with this….maybe it is even a plus. Consider the popularity of Barak (with his pre-marriage composit girlfriends), Spitzer, Clinton, Frank, Edwards, and countless other sexually misbehaving scum bags in powers.

It’s getting to the point where so many local politicos have been prove to be liars, scammers and scumbags that you literally want to fly the bird inches from their faces should they ever try to blow any sunshine up your backside.

As a group they have no credibility (even though some of them are obviously honest and ethical.) They are just scummy losers that found a way to turn a buck on the backs of the voters.

Nasty, nasty, nasty…

Imagine being the department manager who now has to take-on Cherie Aispuro…

Just wait until it becomes apparent, and it will, that this affair started before Gibson hired her. Two families destroyed by a sociopath who cares nothing about the damage he’s done. There’s a lot more to this story. By the way, who are the names that were blacked out who were having an affair with Gail Wilcox during that investigation. Anyone want to bet that Bruce was involved in that too? What a great role model for our kids. What a great person to be passing laws for the rest of us poor schmucks who get up every day and go to work to support our families. This guy has to go! There are some decent people out there who will work for the people. Frank Meachum comes to mind.

I’ve always heard that one of the two was someone known colloquially as “KATCHGO”, whomever that might be.

That is not a colloquialism. It’s the name of a local business: Katch-Go Petroleum.

Well, I was not aware of that. I just learned something.

Buckski states: “it appears that no county resources have been improperly used…” I totally disagree with this statement. First, if anyone out there thinks these two married people (NOT TO EACH OTHER) did not carry on during business hours, trips, etc, you are not thinking right. These two immoral persons have destroyed their work enviroments, their families and the community that elected and paid their salaries. If Buckski thinks that checking all the email and travel records is being done on personal time, the meetings with staff members, Human Resources, committees, boards, etc. does not have a financial impact this man also needs to be removed from his position. These people are the slime that walk the earth and Mr. Gison should have the intelligence to resign his post, work on resolving his personal issues and Ms. Cheri Aispuro needs to resign as she messed up her position with the County and does not deserve the job she has. Why should some department have to talk this slut in because she made bad choices. Quit and do the right thing as you will do nothing but create additional problems in whatever little corner they find for you in the County. Is Mr. Gibson going to pay her salary because the budget in the Supervisor’s office does not belong to her or him, it belongs to a ethical employee who works with the supervisor SERVING THE PEOPLE, NOT SERVICING MR> GIBSON. Both of you need to go away and go away quietly and rapidly, you are disgusting employee beings. Interesting how this stroy broke on a Friday night, for sure the political powers know how to play this game well.

Pass the Buckshi needs to grow a pair.

But he obviously won’t because he would ultimately end-up getting canned…

You must be kidding Mr Buckshi. Maybe you are used to all of the past indiscretions in your offices. Just a quick list of CEO’s that have lost jobs and some were not even direct reports.

Kubasik-lockheed, Hurd-Hewlett Packer, Stonecipher-Boeing, Browne- BP, Heyer-Starwood Hotels and now Petraus. All lost their jobs in the private sector. I guess there are a lot less ethics required of SLO County personnel. Or maybe Buckshi does not have the stomach or other body parts to seriously investigate his boss. Come on SLO County, after the last Wilcox & Edge fiasco you want to be

embarrassed again? The final blow will be her lawsuit against the county for sexual harassment and since you did nothing Insurance will not or should not pay.

Most of the ethically-challenged in SLO County government haven’t suffered any real political consequences so why should things change. Regulars on this website might get all indignant and vote accordingly but we are a small minority in this county. Just as in state and national politics, most voters don’t check facts and just vote based on name recognition and promises. Until that changes politics will remain full of people with no more than average moral character (and often less).

I think he HAD to come clean at this time, because there will be MORE coming…

Gibson s only source of inspiration obviously comes from Mr. Winkie. Will be interesting to hear where his “Assistant” Cherie gets promoted to within the county. Perhaps she can work in Human Resources. A department within the county known to have some real doozies.

Just maybe Petreaus inspired him to come clean??????
