December 4, 2015

burglarPaso Robles police arrested two men who allegedly burglarized a pair of homes on Tuesday. Only one of the suspects is charged with burglary, but both are suspects in other burglary cases in the city.

Tuesday’s burglaries occurred between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. They took place in the 100 block of Rosemary Drive and the 100 block of San Augustine Drive, according to a police department news release.

Officers investigated the break-ins and identified Romi Macias, 19, and Elijah Cooper, 23, as possible suspects. Both are Paso Robles residents.

Police located Macias around 7:40 p.m. while he was traveling as a passenger in a vehicle in the 100 block of Niblick Road. Officers arrested Macias without incident.

Officers located Cooper on Wednesday. They arrested him without incident in the 800 block of Pine Street around 2:10 p.m.

Police booked both suspects in San Luis Obispo County Jail. Macias is charged with burglary, possession of a controlled substance and probation violation. Cooper is charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance, being in possession of narcotics paraphernalia and with having an outstanding felony arrest warrant for narcotics violations in San Bernardino County.

Macias remains in jail with bail set at $50,000. Cooper is in jail with bail set at $5,000.

Detectives are investigating whether Macias and Cooper are responsible for a recent string of residential burglaries in Paso Robles. Late last month, Paso Robles police announced there had been a spike in burglaries over a two-week span.

The burglaries occurred on the east side of the city during daytime hours. Burglars had been breaking into homes by way of unlocked rear windows or sliding glass doors.

Detectives request that anyone with information about the case call the Paso Robles Police Department at (805) 237-6464.
