On Monday, a sheriff’s rural crimes detective was investigating thefts from several farms in the Santa Maria area. The investigation led the detective to the area of A Street and La Brea Avenue, where a stolen fertilizer injection pump had been found the previous week.

Along with a K-9 team, the detective searched the area and found several bicycles, welding equipment, grinders, hand tools, battery chargers, identification documents, sports memorabilia and a laptop.

Upon closer inspection, the deputies found a 10-feet-deep hole in the ground that led to an underground bunker. When deputies ventured down through the tunnel into the sleeping area, they discovered meth pipes and two bindles of what appeared to be methamphetamine.

The deputies also found power cords connected to a nearby power hole that was being used to tap into the adjacent property’s electricity.

Daniel Nunez

Santa Maria police officers came out to the scene to help conduct a search of the bunker. During the search, investigators located 31-year-old Daniel Nunez hiding inside, covered in dirt and grass.

Even though Nunez provided a false name to deputies, investigators discovered his identity and found he had two outstanding warrants, including one for absconding from his electric monitoring program.

Deputies arrested Nunez and booked him into the Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia, being under the influence of a controlled substance, providing false identification to a peace officer and theft of utility services, as well as for having outstanding warrants.

Investigators linked the sports memorabilia, identification documents and the laptop found in and around the bunker to a commercial burglary that took place at a storage facility, as well as to a residential burglary.

Authorities are returning the stolen property to the rightful owners.

I put that bunker on Air B&B this morning and got 2 calls already, one was from a guy in San Francisco and another was from L A.

No words needed really… About as sad and pathetic as it gets.

This guy needed arresting .. But this could also be labeled a rescue …Rescue from himself …hopefully he is held in jail for awhile and none of his cellmates doesn’t have a connection for meth in the jail or medical doesn’t give him meds that are similar to doing meth. And this guy can dry out and get the meth out of his system ….But he will have alot of left over effects for the rest of his life unfortunately

A “vacant” lot. Look at all that stuff there. No use what figuring what that is all about, eh? Guess I could just build a home there and nobody would notice. Or, what that picture photo shopped? LOL.
