San Luis Obispo County election’s office is slowest in the state

June 18, 2026

By KAREN VELIE

The San Luis Obispo County election’s office led the state Thursday in uncounted ballots with 4,654 of 96,488 ballots cast still to count. Statewide, there are 13,636 ballots left to count, according to the California Secretary of State.

Ranking second slowest is Riverside County with 2,200 ballots uncounted of 546,592 ballots cast. Of California’s 58 counties, only 15 have not yet counted all of their ballots.

At the end of the 2022 ballot count, SLO County was the second slowest in the state to finish counting.

SLO County Clerk-Recorder Elaina Cano has claimed the lengthy canvas is “a testament to the meticulous and essential work happening behind the scenes.”

California county election officials have 30 days to count every valid ballot, audit and certify their work – known as the official canvas.

Oh, I get it now. When you said ‘slowest in the state,’ I thought you meant feckless. Turns out you meant glacial. But hey, let’s just call it ‘meticulous.’

“a testament to the meticulous and essential work happening behind the scenes.”

explains alot!

If the office counted faster they would have been accused of counting too fast.

If they were average-it would have been reported they should take longer.

It’s all about election harassment. Starts at the top with trump and oozes down to our local level.

The angry mob chased away Gong. Now they are after Cano until they can get a cheater in the position.

Explain “Russian Collusion” and other fantasies from Hillary and the DNC for us…

Nobody should even worry!!!! Our election lead is completely non partisan! It’s clearly on her candidate form, for the election she’s in and running.

Come on people if you can’t have absolute blind faith, what can you have.

When Julie Rodewald was county clerk… we had “meticulous” results the same day. What changed? Wait…. what?

Takes time to massage the numbers. CYA, and all that rot.

Here is something that never said by Cano, “Last election it took us X amount of time to finish the count, this election lets do it in X – 20%”, never thinks to do the job better, or last election we needed $$$$$$ for overtime, this election lets finish the count without needing to spend money on overtime.

Well, dagnabit, that proves it, eh? It’s gotta be fraud.

Well if that’s not a hint how about the fact the head election official is a candidate in the election she is officiating.. if that’s not a clear conflict of interest I don’t know what is? Dagnabit

It’s not easy finding those late entries that favor democrats. You have to look under every table and drop box….

Unfortunately San Luis Obispo County re-elected Cano…We can only expect more of the same!

I’m Disappointed with how very uninformed our citizens are. Vanessa Rozo tried really hard to do a very clean campaign giving a very compelling contrast to Cano’s campaign … Cano really never applied herself to the campaign trail resting on her title!
