Santa Maria police officers caught an alleged car thief driving a stolen vehicle over the weekend.
On Saturday, officers responded to the 1200 block of West Bethel Lane over a stolen vehicle report. Shortly afterwards, officers located the vehicle near La Brea Avenue and Blosser Road and attempted to make a traffic stop, according to the Santa Maria Police Department.
The driver failed to yield. Police then observed the suspect throwing a bag that contained a handgun out of the vehicle.
Eventually, the driver stopped in the 1100 block of West Morrison Avenue. Officers arrested the suspect, whom they identified as Sage Ristich.
The victim then identified Ristich as the thief who had stolen his vehicle. Authorities booked Ristich in Santa Barbara County Jail on vehicle theft, as well as firearm and drug-related charges.
Investigators ask that anyone who has information about the case contact the Santa Maria Police Department at (805) 928-3781.
