Scouts’ gay ban may be costly

April 11, 2013

boyscoutsA current ban of gay members of Boy Scouts of America will be addressed by the California Legislature by seeking to remove the organization’s tax-exempt status.

A bill called the Youth Equality Act, sponsored by Sen. Ricardo Lara, D-Long Beach, passed its first committee hurdle as it made its way through the Senate Governance and Finance Committee on a 5 to 2 vote.

The proposal would remove tax-exempt status  from any youth group shown to be discriminating on nationality, race, religion or equal orientation, but was originated because of the Boy Scout policy. It now heads for the Senate Appropriations Committee for review.

Lara’s bill is the first of its kind to be presented in the California lawmaking body.

I don’t like the Scout’s discrimination against gays or atheists but I don’t think the government should be in the business of penalizing them for it by revoking tax-exempt status. Are they prepared to use the same tool to micromanage every tax-exempt institution (including churches and many social organizations) that have “discriminatory policies. If they insist on doing that, maybe they should just do away entirely with tax-exempt status for all organizations.

The scouts are already hurting financially because of the public response to their policies as they stick to traditions that are no longer widely accepted as “moral.” This is too bad because they are a very good influence on young boys in many other ways. The state government needs to let the public slowly sway them towards a new course rather than shoving judgment down their throats.

MaryMalone

I think the government should ABSOLUTELY be in the business of taking back a group’s tax-exempt status if the group turns out to be practicing bigotry.

I see this as having the potential for ground-breaking legislation, and future rulings against other organizations that practice bigotry.

ApathyWillKillYou

The Boy Scouts is a PRIVATE organization and the government needs to but out!

Citizen

Mary, it works both ways. You could turn in the Daughters of the American Revolution(you have to trace your heritage to someone who came here before the revolution to be a member) and I could turn in La Raza (still claiming to be the superior race).

You could turn in some fundamentalist Christian Church or a Mosque (that doesn’t support gay marriage) and I could turn in the Episcopal Church (courtesy of the left wing that makes political statements).

So, what happens to freedom of speech and freedom of religion when the government goes after organizations they feel are bigoted. Do we just have one government approved youth group? What happens to individual freedom and liberty. Does it disappear because we have to look at the “greater good”.

Rambunctious

I think the Boy Scouts of America should tell the tyrants to put their tax breaks where the sun don’t shine and ask the parents of the boy’s to make a donation to keep the Boy Scouts free from this latest form of Tyranny. Definition of Tyranny… cruelty and injustice in exercise of power or authority over others. Look it up Slanders…

MaryMalone

I agree that the BSofA should voluntarily withdraw their own tax-exempt status, and not force the government to do it for them.

If the BSofA wants to practice bigotry, and believes they are morally correct to do so, then they should put their money where their mouth is and pay their own way.

I wouldn’t count on getting an uptick in donations, to any significant amount. Many organizations, especially after the LATimes wide-reaching series of articles on how the BSofA actively worked to protect pedophiles in their ranks, refusing to require fingerprinting for FBI checks for new volunteers to rule out those with a history of pedophilia convictions, and facilitating relocation of pedophiles to new BS troops by helping in the coverup of their past acts of pedophilia.

Rambunctious

Mary…don’t you find it troubling that the word bigot and bigotry is so selectively used? If you want to see bigotry; try being a white male waiting for a tow truck in the Crenshaw district of Los Angeles at 2:00 AM. Or try to get a drink in a Lesbian bar as a straight man. Or try getting a head chef position in a Chinese restaurant as a Latin American. My point is everyone is Bigoted of one thing or another not just white straight men. To think otherwise is…well…Bigoted.

I do agree if you take the Government Cheese don’t be surprised if they tell you what kind of bread to eat it with. Just like government run health care. A government big enough to give you health care is big enough to tell you what kinds of food and how much of it you can eat. The BSof A would be well advised to cut all ties with Government.

Ted Slanders

Listen up you Boy Scouts of American organization! If you’re going to rule upon not having any gay boys in your troop because of religious conviction, then start following your bible 100 percent and initiate what your God tells you to do about the gay community, or forever STFU!

Your God’s term for gay boys is; sodomites, so you better start following His lead and call them what they are! SODOMITES! Who are you to usurp His wants? “And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.” (2 Kings 14:24)

Subsequent to you demeaning these young boys as Sodomites, then you’re to follow the the command by your God as well by conducting the following act, to wit: “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: THEY SHALL SURELY BE PUT TO DEATH; their blood shall be upon them.” (Leviticus 20:13)

What religious Scout leader will be the first to come forth and actually follow their bible’s godly commands? President Wayne Perry, are you going to be the first to draw blood? Fool1

Likewise in the New Testament writings, these gay boys are worthy of death as well! “And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things ARE WORTHY OF DEATH, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. (Romans 1-27, 32)

There is NOTHING worse than an hypocritical pseudo-christian that doesn’t follow their bible 100 percent, aka, HYPOCRITES!

For the super ignorant, don’t even try to postulate that some of this religious crapola was in the Old Testament, therefore, it doesn’t have to be followed now, because if you have the nerve to be religiously ignorant in this respect, I’ll be all over you like white on rice! Get it?!

Citizen

Ted, you bring up a good point. The Gay agenda crowd will next want to ban Bibles until they are rewritten to exclude all mention of Sodomites.

jarhead

I have read NOTHING that has been posted , BUT as a former scoutmaster for 25 years , I stand beside the decision , I dont care what your sexual choice might be but there is no place for it in scouting , we try to teach the young men the way its been taught for many years , so BUTT out GAY AND LESBIANS and let it go .

r0y

Or, I don’t know, FORM YOUR OWN CLUB? Sheesh, we have such a prattling bunch of nitwits sometimes, it amazes me.

There’s a women’s-only gym down the road… I cannot go there, I have to go elsewhere. Should I sue? Of course not, because I’m (generally) not a sucktard.

…yes, I made that word up.

MaryMalone

Is your sexual orientation a “choice” to you? Are you attracted to people of your same gender, and could you become gay by simply making a “choice” to be gay?

That doesn’t sound like heterosexual to me. It sounds like bisexual.

My heterosexual orientation isn’t a lifestyle choice for me, nor for the majority of heterosexuals I know. It is how I was born, and how I am wired.

SLOBIRD

First, I don’t give a damn what two consenting adults in the privacy of their environment. I care very much when 1) Georgetown University, one of the oldest private Universities in the United States, a Catholic University, that has a Newman Center (Catholic ministry centers at non-Catholic universities found throughout the world, Cal Poly has one) is being picketed to have the priest in charge of the center removed because of his anti gay statements. 2) gays are now soliciting to have fertility procedures built into all our insurance policies because they need it to reproduce together. I just don’ want to pay for two men or two women to have a baby. You are not infertile, you are not physiologically designed to reproduce. I don’t care that gays have children, but I don’t want to pay for their school, meals, before/after school care, phone, computer, insurance, etc. – this includes my feelings for heterosexual as well. Anyone want a baby, go for it, just don’t ask for my money. I’ve been in the pain of it.

This California proposed law will be interesting to watch as it includes transgender as well as gay and lesbian and will affect sport programs, and all other organizations, and yes it will eventually be imposed on the churches. But, then again, government needs every last penny that they can suck from every person, corporation, group, organization, religion, cigarette, wine/liquor, gun/bullet, immigration fee/permit, etc. Wherever the government can get it, they want it. We all have to share the pain and give more, and then some more.

r0y

Don’t worry, it’s all just show so that no one notices how screwed up our state is. As long as we all keep focusing on our wee-wee’s and guns, we’ll never notice the continued fleecing of the public treasury.

More smoke.

MaryMalone

QUOTING SLOBIRD: “I just don’ want to pay for two men or two women to have a baby. You are not infertile, you are not physiologically designed to reproduce.”

GLBTs may not want to pay for heterosexuals to get pregnant and have babies, either. Racial bigots may not want to pay for non-whites to get pregnant and have babies. That is too bad for them.

People don’t have the right to restrict others from accessing insurance. Perhaps an insurance company will form to service bigots. If that ever occurs, you might want to check out what they offer.

BTW, people who are infertile ARE ALSO “…NOT physiologically designed to reproduce.”

MaryMalone

The only groups it will impact, as the bill is written, will be groups who want to use tax-exempt status to practice their bigotry.

I don’t believe churches should have tax-exempt status, so if that is a by-product of Lara’s bill, then that is just a bonus for me.

The Gimlet Eye

In the first place, taxation is robbery.

Ted Slanders

Gimlet,

Try living without it.

The Gimlet Eye

I’ll be happy to——when the crony collectivist police state goes away.

r0y

I was wondering the other night. When will people wonder why the Federal Government needs to confiscate our wealth? I mean, they are printing and digitizing their own, more than $80,000,000,000.00 a month just to bail out the stock market and pretend things are fine.

So, if we’re playing monopoly, and the banker is photocopying the $500 bills, but asks you for all your tens… wouldn’t it dawn on you, “Hey, why do you need these, since you’re printing your own 500’s?”

Think about it.

The Gimlet Eye

Good points, all.

The key word is, “confiscation.”

Quote from G. Edward Griffin

“Inflation has now been institutionalized at a fairly constant 5% per year.

This has been determined to be the optimum level for generating the most revenue without causing public alarm.

A 5% devaluation applies, not only to the money earned this year, but to all that is left over from previous years. At the end of the first year, a dollar is worth 95 cents.

At the end of the second year, the 95 cents is reduced again by 5%, leaving its worth at 90 cents, and so on.

By the time a person has worked 20 years, the government will have confiscated 64% of every dollar he saved over those years.

By the time he has worked 45 years, the hidden tax will be 90%. The government will take virtually everything a person saves over a lifetime.”

zaphod

the federal reserve celebrates 100 years of creating our currency out of thin air this year.

r0y

…and they’re paid handsomely for doing it! It used to be, they just kept whatever they created via bond returns, etc. Now, they are taking stocks, commodities, etc. And we’re paying them to buy all our stuff. Truly insidious. However, just when people might realize this is happening, gun control or gay rights are flared up conveniently. Or whatever cause celeb grabs the low-info public’s attention.

SLOTECH90

There is another little item that the BSA sees fit to deny membership for; atheism. If a young man does not swear to god, he’s out. This of course results in a lot of kids staying in the closet. Discrimination against having no belief is illogical.

Cindy

That’s right SLOTECH, The BSA is a Christian organization and it is their RIGHT to be Christian if they so choose. If you don’t like it, then start an atheist BSA.

pasoparent5

Actually BSA is not a “Christian organization”, Cindy. There are Muslims, Mormons, Buddhists, etc involved in Scouting. No boy has to “swear to God,” either. slotech90 falsely blames Scouts for “kids staying in the closet” but if there’s anytime in history where it was MORE acceptable to be gay/”questioning”/etc, it’s now. No one’s forcing slotech90 or his kids to be involved but they shouldn’t bully a private organization, either.

Cindy

Thanks for the clarification pp5. I thought that perhaps they were like the YMCA but you’re right. I recall Jewish friends being in the Girl Scouts with me. I guess it’s about unhealthy behavior that is unbecoming for young men that the BSA is concerned with.

r0y

PP5 is correct. Both of my boys are in scouts, and there are religious medals for most all religions (even “Scientology” *shudder*). I’ve never heard them swearing to God, but it is in the scout oath:

On my honor, I will do my best

To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;

To help other people at all times;

To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.

No “Christian” God, but definitely NOT for atheists, as they’d likely have an issue with this. Then again, atheists do not attend temples, mosque, synagogues or churches… by choice; they can participate in non-religious or even atheist-only groups. I would fully support a group that was atheist-only, or GLBT-only – even though I do not morally support them, they have a right to exist and function. And I’d be a fool to try an legislate them away.

MaryMalone

And a private organization who practices bigotry against others should not receive tax-exempt status.

African-Americans couldn’t join the Ku Klux Klan. Should the KKK have had tax-exempt status?

easymoney

Speaking as a former scout and an alterboy who was never inappropriately approached by a leader or molested by a priest, I am dismayed at the dismantling of our traditions by a few…

eradicate ignorance

I am dismayed and disgusted at the outright bigotry of the Scouts and the Catholic Church’s attempts to cover for child molesters.

MaryMalone

I am dismayed that the Boy Scouts have enjoyed tax-exempt status for so long, even when it became public knowledge that they embraced bigotry against gays.

The irony, of course, is that the Boy Scouts have embraced pedophilia for years, and facilitated pedophiles’ having access to young boys and teenagers, even after prior pedophile assaults were known.

Their message is loud and clear: it is wrong for two same-gendered people to enter into a mutually consensual romantic and possibly sexual relationship, but it is a-okay for Scout leaders to sexually assault the young boys and teenagers under their control….even if it was a male-on-male assault.

So the Boy Scouts condone same-gendered pedophilic sexual assaults, but not same-gendered consensual relationships.

Got it. Glad they are set to lose their tax-exempt status.

Citizen

The Scouts are not pro pedophile. They have been unable in the past and even now to prevent pedophilia, just as the YMCA, the Boys Club and other youth groups have been unable to prevent pedophilia. Yes, and some pedophile cases were covered up just as they were with other groups–and I can speak personally about the YMCA in the town I grew up in.

The Scouts try to conduct their events without sex, period.

MaryMalone

The *ell they aren’t “pro-pedophilia.” They certainly have not been AGAINST it and PRO-their scouts!

Here’s an article from the LATimes that is just one example of the ways that the Boy Scouts, instead of protecting their scouts, failed to take steps to protect them from something that the Boy Scouts leaders KNEW was already a problem.

There are many other articles featured in the LATimes full coverage of this horrible tragedy.

BOY SCOUTS OPPOSITION TO BACKGROUND CHECKS LET PEDOPHILES IN

(tinyurl.com/dxs5kgt)

———

“Amid reports of widespread sexual abuse of children in the late 1980s, several leading youth organizations began conducting criminal background checks of volunteers and staff members.

Big Brothers Big Sisters ordered the checks for all volunteers starting in 1986. Boys and Girls Clubs of America recommended their use the same year.

One of the nation’s oldest and largest youth groups, however, was opposed — the Boy Scouts of America.

Scouting officials argued that background checks would cost too much, scare away volunteers and provide a false sense of security. They successfully lobbied to kill state legislation that would have mandated FBI fingerprint screening.

While touting their efforts to protect children, the Scouts for years resisted one of the most basic tools for preventing abuse. The result: The organization let in hundreds of men with criminal histories of child molestation, many of whom went on to abuse more children, according to a Times analysis of the Scouts’ confidential abuse files…..

————————

Citizen

The YMCA and the Girl Scouts joined with the Boy Scouts to fight the mandatory finger printing in 1986. That was a mistake.

The Big Brothers organization that was heavily hit by pedophiles because they allowed a one on one relationship (the Big Sister program was in its infancy)would have gone under at that point because of the rampant pedophile activity. They welcomed the fingerprinting program–to their credit.

The pedophile history of the YMCA and the Big Brothers/Boys Club has not been made public by court order. I contend that the YMCA did not keep records during much of their early history. On the other hand, I’ve never personally heard of pedophiles in the Girl Scouts.

MaryMalone

P.S. The difference between the Boy Scouts and other youth groups is that other groups, once the problem was outed, at the very least, started fingerprinting their staff and checking the FBI database before they allowed them access to the scouts.

The Boy Scouts became a safe haven for pedophiles FOR YEARS. I wonder how many adult leaders of other youth groups, who did demand fingerprinting, fled to the safe arms of the Boy Scouts of America?

What legitimate reason could they possibly have for not mandating fingerprinting so they could check the FBI data base? The reason they gave…because it would frighten away potential volunteers…is ludicrous.

Anyone who is afraid to have their fingerprints compared to FBI files shouldn’t have access to the scouts, should they?

r0y

It could have been as they said, or, likely, there is a healthy distrust of Government by a lot of scouting “types” (i.e. self-reliant, Constitution and God-centric people).

Still, it does not excuse the Scouts’ error of not picking up background checks sooner. It was a black eye on the organization, which has been corrected.

MaryMalone

That wasn’t the only “black eye” on the organization. How about the letters of recommendation for their staff, including scout leaders, who, because of their sexual assaults on young scouts, had to leave their current troop? In the list of scout leaders forced to resign their current troup, there are multiple men who went on to become a leader in a new troup, where they promptly committed sexual assaults against the scouts in his new troup. Some of them went through FOUR troups, sexual assaults in each, and each case getting recommendations from the scout troup from which they resigned.

BSofA had their “Perversion Files” locked up for decades. It took multiple suits to gain public access to them.

pasoparent5

And so it begins…

Stay tuned, America. Next, the gay rights agenda folks will pressure lawmakers to strip the tax-exempt status of any religious organization or church who refused to go along with their beliefs.

How ironic that the same people who constantly spout off about “tolerance” of THEIR lifestyle choice are the same people who bully private organizations (Boy Scouts) and privately-owned businesses (Chik-fil-A, et al) who don’t share their mentality. Those of us who believe in traditional marriage–one man, one woman–are branded as “haters,” “homophobes,” etc. The Boy Scouts are merely the latest victims of these gay rights bullies.

Ricardo Lara (Democrat, of course) and others like him want openly gay adult leaders–female and male–to be able to share tents with boys. Sorry, but that’s just not OK with many of us. Yes, there are undoubtedly already gay Scouters, both young and old, who are private about their sexual preference and don’t try to shove it down our throats. But that’s not enough for Lara. Now he wants to punish a 100 year old PRIVATE organization by financially crippling it.

If Lara and other gay rights advocates want to start up their own gay scout group, go for it!

cosmos7

And so it begins…

Stay tuned, America. Next, the negro-rights agenda folks will pressure lawmakers to strip the tax-exempt status of any religious organization or church who refused to go along with their beliefs.

How ironic that the same people who constantly spout off about “tolerance” of THEIR race are the same people who bully private organizations (Boy Scouts) and privately-owned businesses (Chik-fil-A, et al) who don’t share their mentality. Those of us who believe in traditional values–segregation–are branded as “haters,” “negrophobes,” etc. The Boy Scouts are merely the latest victims of these civil rights bullies.

Ricardo Lara (Democrat, of course) and others like him want negro adult leaders–female and male–to be able to share tents with boys. Sorry, but that’s just not OK with many of us. Yes, there are undoubtedly already mulatto Scouters, both young and old, who are private about their ancestry and don’t try to shove it down our throats. But that’s not enough for Lara. Now he wants to punish a 100 year old PRIVATE organization by financially crippling it.

If Lara and other civil rights advocates want to start up their own negro scout group, go for it!

Cindy

This is a very poor analogy. You are trying to liken one’s skin color to one’s chosen lifestyle.

MaryMalone

Did you choose to be heterosexual, Cindy? I know, I didn’t. It is just the way I was born.

I could never have sex with a woman. Nothing wrong with two women having sex…it is just not how I am wired.

When I hear someone say being gay is a lifestyle choice, it makes me wonder how firmly oriented they are in their own sexuality.

Sexuality is not a lifestyle choice. It is the way you were born.

Maxfusion

Show me the gene. The genome has been mapped, and guess what? There is no gay gene. None, zip, nada. Until you can show me the gene, it’s a choice.

kettle

No common sense gene either.

zaphod

Getting all pro science now are we?

Ana di Plosis

Actually, ALL of the scientific investigations into the origins of sexuality point to an underlying genetic predisposition which is determined in utero. Although I support the revocation of the BSA’s tax exempt status for discriminating against gay scouts, I agree that a gay man should not be allowed to sleep in a tent with scouts, just as a heterosexual man should not be allowed to sleep in a tent with girls.

r0y

*gasp* I agree with Ana! ;-)

Except I’d go further and say, if one is homosexual, please understand you are not allowed to join the organization.

If there was a group that told me “breeders” were not allowed… guess what? I would not patronize them, taking my membership/donations/business elsewhere. Then again, I love freedom. I seem to be a minority in this.

MaryMalone

QUOTING ANA DP: “…I agree that a gay man should not be allowed to sleep in a tent with scouts, just as a heterosexual man should not be allowed to sleep in a tent with girls.”

LOL…your response makes no sense.

1. Pedophiles desire sex with children. They may have their preferences for one gender or another but, if the pickings are slim, some pedophiles will “switch ranks” and sexually assault children from the other gender.

2. The vast number of pedophiles are heterosexual men.

3. There are, however, women who are pedophiles. They tend to, like male peodphiles, choose one gender or another but, if their chosen gender is not available, some will chose the other gender to sexually assault.

4. For your comparison to be correct (as a comparison, not necessarily as an opinion), there would have to be consistency in the comparison. It would have to read: “…I agree that a MAN should not be allowed to sleep in a tent with BOYS, just as a heterosexual WOMAN should not be allowed to sleep in a tent with girls.”

I DO agree that, considering the BSofA’s history of sheltering male pedophiles, that no male scout leaders should have unsupervised access to children. The problem is not the males in question…the problem is the BSofA’s failure to protect its boy scouts from sexual assaults from male scout leaders who are pedophiles.

Ana di Plosis

“Pedophiles desire sex with children.”

True, but scouts can be as old as 18, if memory serves.

Thus, my point remains valid: adults who are attracted to the same sex should not be placed in a position of authority over scouts of their same sex. Period.

MaryMalone

Show me the gene for heterosexuality. Show me the gene for bisexuality.

Citizen

The problem with your innane response is that the Scouts are not racist. They are admittedly anti-pedophile, so I could use your tirade as such: Stay tuned, America. Next, the pro -pedophile agenda folks will pressure …. Can you see how my statements are just as outrageous as your Negro-rights statement. Both mine and yours are disgusting.

MaryMalone

The scouts are NOT anti-pedophile. They FOSTER pedophilia by the way they treat the pedophiles in their ranks….which is, basically, give them a free pass.

They may not be racist, but they ARE bigots against GLBTs.

By far, males are the victims of pedophiles. By far, pedophiles are HETEROSEXUAL males.

The issue is not sexual frustration because an adult heterosexual male can’t find a date. The issue is an adult heterosexual pedophile male who has unmonitored access to MALE children.

Pedophiles are interested in children FIRST. That is their top priority. They may have preferences, depending on their sexual orientation, after that. Many pedophiles may prefer a certain gender for their victims, but are willing to “cross-over” to the other gender if their preference is not available.

Institutions like Boy Scouts of America and the Catholic Church attract male pedophiles. Part of the reason is because male pedophiles know they will have unmonitored access to male children.

However, part of it is also because, until lately, these pedophiles knew Boy Scouts of America and the Catholic Church would not bring charges, would try to dissuade the victim from filing a formal report to the church or to the police, and so the pedophile, even if caught, would, at the worst, have to relocate to a new group of victims…often in the same organization where they found their prey before.

Indeed, both Boy Scouts of America and the Catholic Church, for decades, have facilitated pedophiles accessing new targets once they were caught following a male-to-male sexual assault on young and teenage males by refusing to bring charges, refusing to make the identity of the Scout master known, and, indeed, sometimes writing letters of recommendation to a new scout pack or church group when the pedophile was forced to move from the area to escape public attention.

Had the Boy Scouts done the right thing, and sought legal justice for the boys/teenagers sexually assaulted by scout masters, it would have done much to both out the pedophiles and, if they were convicted, help ensure that they did not have the same kind of access to boys/teenagers in the future.

Starting in about mid-2012, the LATimes did a series of articles on the pedophiles who made the Boy Scout’s their hunting grounds. There are links to repository of records, including records indexed to pedophile, year, city and state. Of course, the lack of action by the Boy Scouts in outing these monsters is also documented.

There are many articles about different aspects of Boy Scouts and pedophilia. Do a web search for “Boy scouts” and “pedophilia,” and you will be led to the series.

There is a map of the US with locations of the pedophiles reported as sexual activity, including assault, with the young males in the Boy Scouts.

In California alone, there were 521 logged entries. In far too many cases, there were multiple listings for the same boy scout leader, who simply changed locations and joined a new scout group when he was forced to leave, or left on his own, a previous scout pack.

Citizen

“The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with 2.7 million youth members and over 1 million adult volunteers.[2] Since its founding in 1910 as part of the international Scout Movement, more than 110 million Americans have been members of the BSA.[3]”

I don’t know how the number of abuse cases compared to the number of scouts, but you are right that pedophiles flock to these youth groups. The BSA does not prosecute pedophiles unless the pedophile is an employee; charges and prosecution are left up to the parents. All parents and leaders now have background checks and undergo training to protect the kids. No one adult is allowed to take kids camping or on other trips.

They now have a program that includes girls (Venturing), and have been active in encouraging minorities to be Scouts.

I have read some of the cases that they did not handle properly, and I admit they are distressing, to say the least.

The Boy Scout values are old-fashioned I suppose–mainly God (a higher power) and Country. If you think that acceptance of LGBT values is more important than these values or the good things the Scouting program does, then I can’t argue with you.

MaryMalone

“The Boy Scout values are old-fashioned I suppose–mainly God (a higher power) and Country. If you think that acceptance of LGBT values is more important than these values or the good things the Scouting program does, then I can’t argue with you.”

“God” and “country” do NOT advocate sheltering pedophiles. You defile both Bod and our country for you to even imply otherwise.

The BSofA has an OBLIGATION to prosecute those who have sexually assaulted the boy scouts in the charge of BSofA. They also have an OBLIGATION to alert other boy scout troupes of the identities of those boy scout leaders who have been forced to resign, or who have resigned in shame, after sexually assaulting boy scout(s).

The BSofA CANNOT teach the “values” of “God” and “country” if it coddles pedophiles who sexually assault boy scouts. They do not have the moral ability to teach ANY values.

I don’t know why anyone would entrust their child to BSofA. Their values and priorities are sick and twisted.

Also I was a boy scout, racism, intolerance and religion fueled ignorance was the norm. Our troops assistant scoutmaster went away after a touching incident, not exaggerated. full perv and a white guy.

The Boy Scouts set of values is just plain SICK.

They facilitated scout leaders sexual assaults of boys and young teenage males (male adult-on-male minor sexual assault) but have bigotry as an institutionalized moral when it comes to consensual sexual relations between peers.
