Crowd of suspects face murder charges
September 13, 2013
So many suspects are facing charges in the murder of Santa Maria’s Anthony Iberra that they had to be crowded into a larger venue at Juvenile Court during proceedings Thursday. (Santa Maria Times)
Iberra, 28, was killed March 18, reportedly by fellow gang members, and his beaten and mutilated body was found in the back of a U-Haul truck in Orcutt.
Investigators tracked and arrested 11 Santa Maria residents. One woman has admitted to lesser roles in the drug-related slaying and has already received her sentence.
The remaining suspects face trial. Ramon “Crazy Ray” Maldonado, a “known North West gang member” according to police, is considered by investigators to be the primary suspect in the murder.
