Two homeless Morro Bay men allegedly greeted a female visitor to the city by threatening her and stealing her cell phone while she was in the middle of a call.

The woman, 49, was sitting in her parked car on Main Street near Atascadero Road around 4:15 p.m. Sunday. Frank Daniel Hudson, 57, and Chance Lee Otero, 50, approached her vehicle and made verbal threats, according to the Morro Bay Police Department.

One of the men struck the woman’s car with a belt. The second man then reached through the partially opened car window and grabbed the woman’s phone.

The person with whom the victim was speaking called 911. Morro Bay police located Hudson and Otero, arrested them and booked them in San Luis Obispo County Jail on Monday.

Police charged the suspects with robbery, conspiracy and witness intimidation. Both Hudson and Otero are still in jail.

Hudson also faces charges of violating parole and damaging a wireless communication device, according to the county sheriff’s office website.

Morro Bay police are still investigating the robbery. Investigators request that anyone with information about the case contact the police department at 772-6225.

Now we can all lock our car doors, be apprehensive at intersections (Main & 41), be on guard at the supermarkets (the creep stole a woman’s purse while she was shopping?), look out as we go to our cars in parking lots, buy coffee at McDonalds, go about our daily lives? Our attention now gets back to looking out for criminals? I hate what criminals make us do! We are all compassionate and care about our ‘fellow man/women’, we are vulnerable and weak so when we are approached (the men or women see you get out of your car) by those wanting a hand out, we much watch out! We must be alert to danger, it makes memad. I’ve lived a ‘street smart’ life, but now and then, I forget, dumb me!! When I’m alone I forget to look around, be careful!! I hate living that way, but women alone aren’t safe! A whistle in your pocket? Watch out! Be aware! Women out there, look around, plan your route so you aren’t walking past ‘the homeless’, loitering ! It isn’t fair that women are targets of criminals! McDonald’s had to put up a sign inside their restaurant, ‘no loitering’ , they are the targets, they don’t deserve to worry! So many people suffer from criminal behavior by others. I hate it! I don’t give anything to those soliciting on street corners or in parking lots. We give to the Salvation Army and other charities! We give to help people in need! Don’t give money or food at street corners, if soliciting doesn’t work they will move on or better yet stop doing it ( not likely). It isn’t fair, but life isn’t always fair.

Out of curiosity I went back through this thread and compiled some statistics. In 22 well thought-out comments, I received 28 dislikes versus 129 dislikes. Eight of those comments drew absolutely no likes at all. On the other hand, the poster “givemeabreak”, who engages primarily in subliterate ridicule and adolescent namecalling (openly allowed by the moderator apparently), in 17 comments compiled 91 likes as opposed to 4 dislikes with 14 comments receiving not one dislike. I don’t know if this says more about the Cal Coast News readership or the country at large. All I know is that when I want to feel good about myself, I comment on Cal Coast News to see how many dislikes I can rack up.

So sick and tired of these bums hanging around, there beat to shit motor homes parked just outside city limits on Hwy 41,then the rest of them are section 8 up at the old motel on the corner of Quintana and Morro Blvd, they all gather up at the lot next to the Standard station to plan there daily panhandling on people, and here we are some lady gets attacked, its time to gather all these bums up and run them out of town, and the skinny freak can pound his gitar for them someplace else.Odd it was the city council that made some ordance or some such thing about Steve the pirate on the water front, that he can no longer be a part of the color there,he wasn’t panhandling like this trash we have hanging around now,he was colorful entertainment for the tourists.

That skinny freak is actually a talented musician. Pirate Steve actually believes he’s a pirate and has no talent or pirate qualities. He doesn’t even know any pirate jokes or pirate songs. He doesn’t have a parrot either. I may not want the “skinny freak” around my kids but I wouldn’t want Pirate Steve around them either. A professional pirate for the waterfront wouldn’t be a bad idea, just not someone who makes the tourists feel uncomfortable like Steve does.

Well, it is what it is….the current leadership does NOTHING to get rid of these bottom feeders, but makes sure to go after the business owner’s, some of who built this town and try and destroy them. At this rate Morro

Bay is surely doomed.

He has a ‘pail’ hanging from his belt. What is his business? I don’t want to be ‘engaged’ when I’m walking around the embarcadero, I’m glad he was asked not to do that.

We were at the train station in Grover Beach yesterday at 7 am to say farewell to a friend on her way to Los Angeles. As we were talking by the fence just south of the covered area, someone yelled “Shut the %#&$ up” from under the trees that are between the fence and Hwy 1. I looked in there and saw a homeless encampment. Why can’t something be done about the homeless camping in such areas?

Imagine that, a bum whooshing someone, so he can gey his beauty sleep. A sign will likely be posted to request no talking before noon so the filthy bums can get their 18 hrs sleep per day. What a country.

A couple of months ago the Grover Beach PD, Sheriff’s & CHP cleared them out.

Well then, I guess they are back.

I know what you mean, it is scary and embarrassing when people behave badly in our community, we live is such a beautiful place that we want to feel safe and free of ugliness.

There must be a solution? what do other communities do? somehow we must deal with the criminals and help those willing to live a good life? but how?

Those wanting to live a good life find a way to help themselves.

You poor people being subject to such ugliness. If you could only hear yourselves. You sound like something out of a Daily Show interview.

What about “lottery of birth” y’all? Doesn’t that count for anything? Did Frank or Chance really have any choice as to what circumstances and environment they were born into? Or that they were born at all? Did they pick the role models that they learned their behavior from? Did they choose their personalities, their work ethic, willpower, decision-making, their morals, their genetics? Let’s have some compassion for those that may not have had as much as us growing up. How good would you have turned out if your mother was like Chance’s. Poor Chance – he never had a chance. Get it?

Having compassion for those less fortunate is one thing.

It does not mean we should give a pass to those who commit crimes, or make little or no attempt to better themselves.

Not everyone born into less than ideal circumstances becomes a criminal.

There are other choices, and we celebrate those who rise above.

‘Many great achievements can be traced back to overcoming disadvantages. Many great failures can be traced back to a lack of disadvantages.’

They got arrested, didn’t they? Who’s giving them a pass? Morro Bay are just getting bent out of joint because of the homeless are starting to disturb their little pollyanna thoughts of themselves.

Everyone has a choice. And the result of your life is the cumulative affect of those choices.

Choices to drink, do drugs, quit school, alienate every person who has ever cared about you, choices to commit robbery.

Stop making excuses for these filthy disgusting bums. They are where they are because of their lifetime of pathetic choices.

At what age did they start learning to make choices? What was going on in their lives? What about their genetics. Don’t some animals make poorer decisions than other then just die off?

Let’s see. Age 3. I have an idea. Let them live with you so you can learn their life stories. Show your true compassion. Open your home to a bum or multiple bums.

Feed them. Clothe them, and show them love. Check back in a year to let us know how that works out.

I thought the vagrant problem was getting bad in Morro Bay until the last time I drove through Ventura. The Homeless love the coast just like the rest of us. If you want to see Morro Bay’s future just go down to Ventura. I’ve never seen it this bad down there, I’m talking very scary desperate looking souls. Most of them under 30. Our state is on a major downturn at almost every level. Sad…

Funny how the encroachment of humans upon other humans, or animals upon animals for that matter, is only sad when we are the ones being encroached upon.

So, if you stop so you won’t get a ticket for talking and driving you risk being accosted while stopped! ? Huh, what a stupid situation!

I heard Chance and his Mom recently got 86ed from a local grocery store in MB for stealing a purse. The apple doesn’t fall far.

Another reason to pack!

Yes, pack up and leave. Move to Kettleman while you can, everybody.

Thank goodness the woman had a cell phone and the person on the other end could get to the police!! I guess we a need to be more careful, more alert to those who prey on women/visitors. I hope more people were there and helped her. I drive that route daily (sometimes 3 or 4 times a day), honestly, women aren’t safe. I hope our police department has a plan to watch over areas of concern.

Fishing Village….its really pretty SIMPLE. No need to act like a helpless woman.

You save yourself in this world.

Very bleak and troubled outlook.

MB doesn’t have enough officers to watch over ALL the areas of concern.

F. Hudson looks just like so many of the other homeless hanging around, using the restrooms of businesses to ‘shower’, shoplifting, etc.

It is a CONSTANT problem! MB is going downhill in a hurry.

Because there is no profit to be made from the homeless. They have no problem going to Jail (shelter) free food, showers etc. They can’t pay fines so they just stay in jail until released. They will be back to harassing the public shortly.

Define “downhill”. Maybe replacing the greedy with the needy could bring Morro Bay back closer to what it once was, long before Europeans displaced the true Natives.
