Nipomo man facing 126 sexual abuse charges

The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office filed 126 counts against a Nipomo man Friday for allegedly sexually abusing a now 18-year-old girl for the past four years.
The 126 felony charges filed against Robert John Bergner, 51, include one count of child pornography of the victim. In addition, there are two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, two counts of forcible lewd act on a child, and sodomy of a victim aged 14 to 17, 77 counts of child molestation, 23 counts of unlawful intercourse with a minor under 16 and 23 counts of unlawful intercourse with a minor more than three years younger than the perpetrator.
Bergner, the coach this year of an under 12-year-old girl’s recreation league softball team in the South County, allegedly molested the victim since the time she was 12-years-old through May of this year.
Bergner remains in the San Luis Obispo County Jail with his bail set at $1 million.
