Bicyclist killed near Cuesta College identified

A San Luis Obispo man who died in a bicycle accident near Cuesta College has been identified as 69-year-old Eugene George Sprull Jr. [Tribune]
A half-ton pickup truck hit Sprull Wednesday afternoon on Highway 1 after the bicyclist veered in front of the vehicle. The truck was traveling about 45 miles per hour at the time.
The crash occurred shortly after 1 p.m., and it forced the closure of Cuesta College’s Hollister Road entrance for about three hours. Responders pronounced Sprull dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck is not suspected of any wrongdoing.
On Monday afternoon, a bicyclist collided with a pickup in Hope Ranch, a suburb of Santa Barbara. The victim was transported to Cottage Hospital with major injuries, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
KSBY reports the bicyclist, 57-year-old Craig Buck, failed to stop at a stop sign, cut a corner and was riding on the wrong side of the street. Buck hit the right side of the truck and was ejected from his bike. Buck was not wearing a helmet, and he is in serious condition with major head injuries.
