Bigger, better… UncoveredSLO’S new horizons

September 4, 2008

By THE EDITORS

UncoveredSLO is expanding. In a world where it’s grow, or go away, we are redesigning our Web site; adding a host of new attractions like the county‘s best activities calendar (currently under construction); and broadening our news coverage in order to provide an even more rewarding and informative reading experience. Under the brand-new banner of CalCoastNews.com, quality investigative reporting by UncoveredSLO — which tens of thousands of daily readers anticipate and depend on — will continue to be our primary focus. That we promise.

Starting today, you are being re-directed to our new site, which will be under construction for the next two weeks or so. In the meantime, expect the same informative, vital reporting about San Luis Obispo County activities that you find only here. And soon, expect to be enjoying the county’s finest complete news source.

Web sites don't have to be a fixed width. Search on "liquid CSS". Fixed sucks.

Still waiting for the 'bigger better' The next step is for this setup to reach the point where it could be called "Sophomoric at best"

I understand 'growing pains' but again, you get what you pay for.

Is the 'old' site gone for good? I'd like to go back to get "SLO Doctor"'s commentary about the local alcohol industry and it's effect on the roads of the county.

3) Sorry for the duplicate post — the system told me that the post was not successfully posted.

Congrats on the new site!

1) I agree with Kenfield, the window comes up slightly wider than my screen. Unlike Kenfield, I did not count precisely how many pixels wide it was.

2) The confirmation email that established my new account was delivered directly to my spam mailbox. Probably this is happening to other wannabe posters as well, which may partially explain the dearth of comments.

Great to see you're expanding! An event calendar is a way to attract more daily visits, and requiring commenters to log in should help cut down the noise. It's amazing that the Tribune and especially the New Times haven't built much of a web readership while two people on a shoestring have.

Some quibbles with the new site design: the 1003-pixel-wide layout is too wide, and I'm sure there are sharp graphic designers who'd love to work on your site, probably for a reasonable rate or pro bono.

Under our new site, bloggers can select a log in name that only they will have access to. We will continue to offer anonymity to bloggers and hope our readers will continue to voice their opinions and share information.
